Today was the 2nd annual Navig8 Lake career day at Lake County Fairgrounds - an immersive, hands-on experience for over 6,000 students from grades 6-12 throughout Lake County. We partnered again this year with IUOE Local 150 to talk to students about the necessary steps to become an operating engineer as well as other opportunities that exist within the construction industry.

We are beyond thrilled to be a part of this transformative project! Take a moment to read about the College of Lake County Lakeshore Campus’s newest addition - the Urban Farm Center - and watch the construction progress.

The center at Lakeshore Campus supports the local food system from farm to table. It trains people to use innovative growing systems. A shared kitchen supports food entrepreneurs. Retail space sells locally grown produce.

This was a special day! We fielded thought-provoking questions and had meaningful dialogue with the students in attendance.

Did you know that despite making up 47% of the overall workforce, women still only makeup approximately 10% of the workforce across all construction related fields?

Getting out there and sharing our experiences and discussing the different opportunities available in construction is a necessary part of opening the industry to everyone who may wish to become involved.

We proudly accepted the APEX Award in the Building Category for the Waukegan History Museum at the Carnegie. Such a cool day at the Career Navig8 Lake career exploration event held at Lake County Fairgrounds.

Doetsch Contractors, Inc. partnered with IUOE Local 150 ASIP to provide information to interested students about the apprenticeship program and potential career paths available to them in union construction.

Throughout the course of the day we spoke to several thousand local students grades 8-12, answering questions and providing the opportunity to load a truck on the simulator.

We’re already thinking about how to make 2025’s event an even more impactful experience for the students!
