Developed by LOCAL and PIR2 for Vestland County Municipality, Skakkeringen forms part of the Skakke Cultural Center complex, integrating with its sports, cultural, and educational facilities. The circular design activates the entire square, accommodating both quiet and active zones, with the central space adaptable for sports, concerts, markets, and outdoor cinema.

User participation, especially from Enge Secondary School students, shaped the park’s program—emphasizing greenery, vibrant colors, climbing and gymnastics facilities, ball game areas, and sheltered hangouts. Skakkeringen thus functions as a flexible schoolyard, community hub, and year-round public activity space.

The 2022 renovation of Senvagė Park transformed a neglected historic site into a central urban landmark of Panevėžys, Lithuania. Key design strategies included: a red brick loop path as a symbolic urban identity; enhanced accessibility through ramps, bridges, and cycle routes; improved waterfront engagement with piers, terraces, and an island; and diversified community programs such as playgrounds, sports areas, and event spaces.

By combining natural materials, ecological planting, and inclusive design, the park has become both a cultural hub and a catalyst for urban regeneration. In 2023, it was shortlisted for the National Architecture Awards of Lithuania (Public Spaces category).

🌿 Plant Basingstoke: Reviving a British Modernist Icon

Once known as Mountbatten House (and affectionately as the “hanging gardens of Basingstoke”), this landmark 1970s building has undergone a heritage-led transformation by a team of leading architects and landscape architects.

Originally designed by Peter Foggo and Arup Associates with roof gardens by James Russell, the Grade II listed building is celebrated as one of Britain’s 15 most important modernist structures.

Now rebranded as Plant Basingstoke, the redevelopment blends architecture, landscape, and wellbeing—offering over 19,500 m² of sustainable workspace and communal amenities. Highlights include:
✨ Restored roof gardens and terraces with 22,500 new plants and 86 trees.
✨ A revitalised entrance, light-filled interiors, and a striking helical staircase.
✨ New amenities: café, gym, cycle hub, and event space.
✨ Targeting BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and WELL Platinum certifications.

By reimagining Russell’s original planting palettes and modernising the building for today’s needs, Plant sets a new standard for sustainable workplace design, bringing people closer to nature while preserving a modernist masterpiece.

The Astir Marina project in Vouliagmeni, Athens, reimagines a man-made coastal site by turning the landscape into a giant map—an overlay of history, geography, and contemporary pressures. Inspired by nautical charts and historic aerial scans, the design integrates topographic contours of the original seabed, a new orienting grid, and green artificial islands that buffer cars while enhancing the public realm along the waterfront.

Material strategies emphasize texture and local references, with basalt stone, Portuguese pavers, marble offcuts, and gabion walls inspired by Greek agricultural terraces. These elements connect past and present while promoting ecological sensitivity and circular thinking.

The project transforms the typical infrastructural harshness of marinas into a dynamic, pedestrian-friendly public space, where architecture and landscape merge into a unified, context-rich environment.

Opera houses, like Hanover’s, embody the spirit of Verdi and the grandeur of the 19th century—where music, drama, dance, and design unite. The redesigned Opernplatz transforms this historic setting into a space for strolling, reflection, and quiet moments amidst the city’s bustle. 🌿

Yew ornaments and hedges weave playful green arabesques around the square, balancing the solemnity of the memorial to murdered Jews with beauty and calm. The result is a thoughtful dialogue between remembrance and urban life.

Originally a grand circular square from the 1900s, Königsplatz in Kassel underwent dramatic changes due to WWII destruction and subsequent architectural interventions, often sparking public protests. Its most famous controversy came during Documenta 9, when a temporary “Stairway to Nowhere” sculpture was removed overnight by the mayor before courts could intervene.

In 2004, Kamel Louafi Landscape Architects won the competition to redesign the square. Since 2005, his design has featured 36 bronze water elements, shaped like tail fins, that send jets of water toward the square’s center. Inspired by Kassel’s Brothers Grimm heritage, mythical motifs are engraved into the figures. Louafi’s decentralized water concept emphasizes the square’s circular form, recalling the former rings of plane trees, and creates a dynamic, poetic water experience unlike traditional fountains.
