🌿 KIẾN TRÚC KHÔNG CHỈ TẠO NÊN CÔNG TRÌNH, MÀ CÒN GÓP PHẦN ĐỊNH HÌNH TƯƠNG LAI ĐÔ THỊ.
The Edge Malaysia là một trong những ấn phẩm kinh doanh và đầu tư có ảnh hưởng trong khu vực, tập trung phân tích thị trường bất động sản, quy hoạch đô thị và các động lực kinh tế. Một điểm chung được nhấn mạnh là vật liệu và giải pháp thiết kế cần được lựa chọn dựa trên giá trị văn hóa, môi trường và kỹ thuật thực tế, thay vì theo những lập trường cứng nhắc; sử dụng vật liệu địa phương khi chúng thực sự phù hợp và ứng dụng có chọn lọc các hệ thống, công nghệ nhập khẩu khi cần hiệu năng chuyên biệt.
Đây cũng là nguyên tắc Vertical Studio theo đuổi: thiết kế bắt đầu từ việc đọc hiểu bối cảnh – khí hậu, vật liệu và nếp sống – trước khi hình thành giải pháp kiến trúc.
Bài viết cũng nhắc đến một vấn đề mà chúng tôi cho là then chốt cho tương lai đô thị Việt Nam: nhu cầu về một văn hóa tái sử dụng thích ứng (adaptive reuse) mạnh mẽ hơn, nơi các công trình di sản có thể được “sống lại” với công năng mới, thay vì bị đóng băng hoặc thay thế hoàn toàn.
Ở góc nhìn của nhà phát triển bất động sản, ông Sherman Kam (S P Setia Bhd) chia sẻ những thách thức thực tế trong bảo tồn di sản, bao gồm áp lực giá trị đất, sự thiếu hụt nghệ nhân và vật liệu truyền thống. 🌿 ARCHITECTURE DOES NOT ONLY CREATE BUILDINGS; IT ALSO HELPS SHAPE THE FUTURE OF CITIES.
The Edge Malaysia is one of the region’s influential business and investment publications, with a focus on real estate markets, urban planning and economic drivers. In its “Eyes on Vietnam” special report, the publication dedicates a section to architecture and design thinking, placing architecture within the broader context of urban development and sustainable investment.
Leo Lam Vuong (Vertical Studio) and Nguyen Hoang Manh (MIA Design Studio) share perspectives on Vietnamese architecture, from layers of historical, cultural and climatic influences to the challenges of rapid urbanisation in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in the article. A common point is that materials and design solutions should be selected based on their actual cultural, environmental and technical value, rather than rigid positions – using local materials where appropriate and selectively applying imported systems and technologies where specialised performance is required.
This also reflects a principle pursued by Vertical Studio: design begins with understanding context – climate, materials and ways of life – before an architectural solution is developed.
The article also highlights the need for a stronger culture of adaptive reuse, allowing buildings with existing value to continue serving new functions rather than being frozen in time or entirely replaced.
From the development perspective, Sherman Kam of S P Setia Bhd discusses the practical challenges of heritage conservation, including land-value pressures and the shortage of skilled craftspeople and traditional materials. Together, these perspectives point to the need to balance development, identity and long-term urban value.
