A family bathroom has to work harder than almost any other room in the house.

It needs to cope with busy mornings, bath time, muddy sports gear, visiting guests and everything in between. That's why good family bathroom design is about much more than choosing beautiful tiles.

One of the biggest mistakes we see is not allowing enough storage. A bathroom can look stunning on day one, but if there's nowhere for toiletries, towels, hairdryers and children's bath toys to go, it can quickly feel cluttered.

We also encourage clients to think carefully about the layout. Can more than one person comfortably use the space at the same time? Is there enough surface space around the basin? Will the shower still work for teenagers in ten years' time?

When it comes to finishes, durability matters. Tiles that are easy to maintain, practical sanitary ware and timeless colours will often serve a family better than following the latest trend.

The best family bathrooms strike a balance between practicality and style. They work beautifully on a busy Monday morning but still feel like a space where you can relax at the end of the day.
