A couple of different style axes 🪓 I made. The larger one is a traditional style tomahawk. These were used from the 1600s on, as weapons during the frontier period in N. America. They were used as trading items or gifts by the settlers & military to the Indian nations as ways to try and gain trust and make them allies. Made from mild steel wrapped around a eye drift, forged welded together & a piece of 5160 carbon steel forged welded into the cutting edge, heat treated & tempered at the forged so it can be sharpened to a good holding edge.

The small 🪓 is a wee camp axe for chopping up small sticks for fires. Also good for processing a rabbit 🐇 if caught during a camp. I hand delivered this one to my daughter in New Jersey. It's make of 5160 carbon steel and hand forged, hardened & tempered. Ash shall & leather sheath. Made to look authentic.

Final video of a collection of clips to show a brief process of knife making. It would have been more detailed but my cameras were stolen a while back and they still had the content I needed. It also is dedicated to a friend who died with cancer. He help take some of the photos on the video. Hope you enjoy it.

This video was meant to be Pt 5 of a mini series. However, most of the content was on the cameras that were stolen. So I have put together a video of rele...

It's been a long time since I posted anything I've made. Made this Beaver Tooth Hunter knife as a Christmas gift for an old friend.

A South African friend sent me this and I couldn't help but think he could be talking about the N. Ireland Assembly.

Well, tools sharpened & Greenland paddle finished & gone to its new home. The Beaver lives on for new waters, this time, salt waters!

Finally, I got started on the Greenland kayak paddle I promised a friend. It's a mess now, & also left a mess to clean up. Laminated Western Red Cedar & Ash. Five layers. Ash Centre core with Ash on the outside. The Ash is for strength & the Cedar weight reduction. Although you can't see it, I have a purpose made clamping horse of steel & wood to apply even pressure & keep things straight. I cover it with grease proof paper to stop paddle from glueing to my horse.
Keep posted to see progress!

Well I got my pre 1840s neck knife dressed up with a neck sheath. The leather and skin has been distressed to age it. As the knife was razer sharp, the sheath is lined with rawhide to help reinforce it.

Just finished my 18th century, frontier mountain man neck knife. Still need to make the sheath. Knife hand forged from car coil spring, most likely 5160. Handle deer antler tine with furel. You can see the forging marks on the spine of the knife & I acid etched the blade to give it a aged patina.
