When outdoor space is designed as part of the restaurant—not simply added onto it—the result can be pretty spectacular. ✨

It was a pleasure for Slide Clear to play a part in creating the new Telefèric Barcelona at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, California.

Telefèric Barcelona brings an authentic taste of Barcelona to the U.S., and this newest location is set to open next week. Judging by what we've seen, Newport Beach is in for a treat.

What I particularly like about this project is how thoughtfully the patio was approached.

Rather than simply covering an outdoor area, the team created an environment that feels like an extension of the restaurant itself.

A beautiful fabric canopy from J. Miller Canvas provides protection and a warm, intimate atmosphere, while Slide Clear operable glass walls provide another layer of environmental control without taking away the openness of the space.

Wood blinds were then incorporated inside the glass enclosure, giving the restaurant the ability to control privacy and shade independently from weather protection.

Sun coming in? Close the blinds.

Beautiful California afternoon? Open the glass. ☀️

Windy or cool evening? Close the glass while maintaining the views.

That's what we mean by designing outdoor spaces around adaptability.

Cover. Shade. Privacy. Protection. Airflow. Comfort.

Each element has a purpose, but together they create an outdoor environment the restaurant can rely upon through far more conditions and throughout more of the year.

Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this beautiful space together.

When an outdoor space feels cold, the first instinct is usually to add another heater or roll down a screen.

It makes sense. More heat should mean more comfort, right? 🔥

But if wind and moving air are constantly carrying that heat away, adding more equipment may only increase energy use without creating the consistent comfort you’re looking for.

The real difference comes from controlling the environment.

We know our glass is strong, but watching it handle this was something else. 😳

Winds reached 120 km/h, trees were bending, and huge branches were breaking off and coming down around the property. Some of them even slammed directly into the glass.

No loud rattling. No panels shaking back and forth. It stayed solid while the other side was chaotic 💨

While everything outside was being thrown around by the wind, the enclosed deck remained calm and protected.

This is the side of outdoor comfort that people don’t always think about.

It isn’t only about keeping a patio warmer or extending the season. 💭

Sometimes, it’s about having a space that feels protected when the weather becomes completely unpredictable.

We couldn’t have planned a stronger example of what it means to create an outdoor space designed to perform. 🧡
