INCIDENT REPORT – SONSTRAAL HEIGHTS 🚨

On 17 May 2026 at approximately 23:50, information together with video footage was circulated via the operational WhatsApp group regarding malicious damage to property and theft at Monte Verdi Complex in Sonstraal Heights.

While on patrol in the area, CDF response officer Charlie 3 immediately responded to investigate the complaint. Upon arrival at the premises, a suspect matching the description observed in the footage was successfully located and detained on scene pending SAPS attendance.

Durbanville SAPS attended together with additional law enforcement services, after which the suspect was arrested and transported to Durbanville Police Station for further legal processing.

This incident once again highlights the critical role that proactive CCTV monitoring, operational communication and community involvement play in successful apprehensions.

Over the past two nights, dedicated CDF controllers monitoring the NHW camera networks in Sonstraal Heights, CGW and Tara also identified additional suspicious activity in the area, including suspicious movement along the Andrag Farm boundary wall near Solara, Minute Ridge and Melody Ridge during the early hours of the morning.

Response teams were immediately dispatched to investigate the perimeter and surrounding complexes — another example of how proactive monitoring and rapid response help prevent potential criminal activity before incidents escalate.

Incidents like these show exactly why community-supported NHW camera initiatives matter.

Every contribution made towards NHW camera networks directly strengthens our ability to identify suspicious activity, coordinate responses rapidly and assist in keeping these communities safer.

⚠️ SEVERE WEATHER WARNING FOR CAPE TOWN ⚠️

Heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions are expected from Sunday into Monday across Cape Town and surrounding areas.

CDF urges all residents to prepare their homes and families ahead of the storm conditions expected to move through the city.

✔️ Clear gutters and stormwater drains
✔️ Secure outdoor furniture and loose objects
✔️ Check roofs and waterproof vulnerable areas
✔️ Trim weak tree branches
✔️ Charge phones, torches and backup devices
✔️ Avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions

Flooded roads, power outages and hazardous driving conditions may occur in certain areas. Opportunistic criminal activity can also increase during periods of bad weather, making vigilance even more important.

CDF teams remain on high alert throughout the severe weather period and will continue monitoring affected areas.

🚨 INCIDENT REPORT – DURBANVILLE GREENBELT 🚨

On 1 May 2026, a theft incident was reported in the Durbanville area after a suspect entered via the greenbelt from the sports field towards the Rasslamia Complex.

CCTV footage confirmed the suspect’s movements into the area and entry into a property, where various items were stolen. Shortly thereafter, the suspect was seen fleeing on foot.

With the assistance of a witness who provided key identifying features not clearly visible on CCTV, response officers were able to locate the suspect in the area.

The suspect attempted to evade arrest by jumping fences and entering a private residence before fleeing again and hiding near Koran Street.

After a continued search, the suspect was successfully apprehended. Additional units arrived on scene to support and stabilise the situation.

The suspect was transported to SAPS, where a formal case has been opened. Stolen property was recovered, and the investigation is ongoing.

Incidents like this highlight the critical role that CCTV infrastructure plays in successful apprehensions — contributions towards your NHW camera network directly strengthen our ability to identify, track, and stop suspects quickly.

💬 A Victim’s Story — Shared With Permission

🚨 A robbery victim shares her experience after CDF officers acted swiftly to recover stolen property and arrest the suspects.

“What started as a normal morning quickly turned into a traumatic experience. As I got out of my car, a man grabbed my handbag and ran. I begged him to give my purse back and even offered him money, but he ran off.

At that moment, I didn’t realise that something extremely precious was inside my purse — a gold chain that belonged to my late mother. I had taken it off earlier in the week and completely forgot it was inside.

About an hour later, the reality hit me that the chain was gone too. I was devastated. That chain carries deep sentimental value and could never be replaced.

Thanks to the incredible response from CDF, the suspect was located quickly. Not long after, the officers returned — and in their hands was my chain. I honestly could not believe it when they handed it back to me.

The suspect even asked me to withdraw the case, but after the trauma he caused, I knew it was important that justice be served.

I cannot thank CDF enough for their prompt response, professionalism, and determination. Getting my late mother’s chain back means more to me than words can express.

Hats off to your team — you were absolutely brilliant.”

🚨 THREE SUSPECTS ARRESTED IN SUCCESSFUL LATE-NIGHT OPERATION 🚨

A successful intelligence-driven operation conducted on the evening of 08 April 2026 resulted in the arrest of three suspects and the disruption of suspected criminal activity within the Saartjie Baartman area. The operation highlights the continued effectiveness of proactive crime prevention, rapid response, and strong collaboration between private security and law enforcement.

At approximately 23h50, Civil Defence Force Armed Response officers, working alongside members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), acted on credible intelligence regarding suspected criminal activity at a premises in the area. Upon arrival, officers executed a coordinated tactical response, establishing a secure perimeter around the premises to prevent the escape of suspects and to preserve potential evidence. Lawful entry and search of the premises were conducted in cooperation with SAPS, ensuring that all procedures were carried out in accordance with legal requirements.

Lawful entry was gained, and during the initial sweep, suspects were observed attempting to destroy evidence. Due to the swift and decisive actions of responding officers, the suspects were apprehended while the act was in progress, preventing the destruction of critical evidence.

A thorough search of the premises led to the seizure of illegal substances as well as cash believed to be linked to unlawful activities. The suspects were informed of their rights and transported to the relevant SAPS facility without incident. All seized items were properly documented and secured as evidence in support of the ongoing investigation.
