Color is not decoration.
It’s a biological experience.
In design, we often speak about color in terms of aesthetics.
But color is processed by the brain before conscious thought.
While studying color theory during my time in college, I learned that color directly engages the limbic system, the part of the brain responsible for emotion, behavior, and physiological response.
Different colors trigger different reactions:
• Warm tones (reds, oranges)
→ increase heart rate, stimulate appetite, encourage social interaction
• Greens and soft neutrals
→ reduce stress, improve focus, support nervous system regulation
• Highly saturated colors
→ energize and stimulate creativity, but can overwhelm if not carefully balanced
Every design decision is, in some way, a behavioral decision.
As designers, we’re not just creating beautiful spaces.
We’re shaping how people feel, interact, and live every single day.
At Ana & Co. Design Studio, we explore how color influences human behavior and how those insights can be used intentionally to support our clients’ daily lives.
Design that goes beyond aesthetics
into emotional and physiological experience.
