Why painting over damp does not last

As water passes through the walls it collects the minerals from the sand, cement and bricks creating a white powder which is carried by the water.

This powder (efflorescence) pushes the paint and plaster from the walls. Being Hydroscopic (absorbs moisture) it takes a wall much longer to dry out. If the bricks and wall plaster is contaminated with these salts, the plaster must be replaced and the bricks cleaned. A special anti salt chemical should be added to the new plaster mix put on the wall.

Rainy Season Here

Awesome to have some rain again, we certainly need it. But with the welcoming rains, mould in our homes thrive. Black mould due to the colder weather is on the rise. As the exterior weather gets colder our homes interiors get warmer with the assistance of heaters. This creates condensation, black moulds best friend.

Condensation occurs when warm air lands on a cold surface such as windows, walls and ceilings. Water marks are commonly found on bedroom windows in the early morning. Condensation reacts "Dew point" and water vapour is formed.
