Burgan Cape Terminals (BCT), an independent fuel storage company comprising VTTI B.V., JICARO and Thebe Investment Corporation, secured a 20-year lease with Transnet at the Port of Cape Town for the development of the Burgan Cape Fuel Terminal on the eastern mole. The project included the construction of 12 fuel storage tanks with a combined capacity of 122,000m³.
Civils 2000 was appointed by Chemie-Tech SA (Pty) Ltd, a Dubai-based specialist in storage facility construction, to deliver the bulk of the civil and building works for the project.
Our scope included:
• Phase 1 earthworks and construction of raised tank foundations
• Sand and stone core foundations with membrane, sand screen, and anti-corrosive bitumen-sand mix
• Installation of HDPE leak detection systems and aggregate gravel paving
• Pipeline installation, internal roads and hard standings
• Construction of the office block, facilities building and security building
• Ancillary works including fencing, access gates and bollards
With stringent quality management requirements throughout, our team worked closely with the Chemie-Tech engineers to ensure smooth delivery without disruption to the project programme.
This project provided valuable exposure to the precision, planning and project management standards required within the Oil & Gas sector, and remains a standout achievement for the Civils 2000 team.
