☀️ Before & After… because your panels deserve a little TLC too! 😎

Solar panels spend their days outside taking on dust, pollen, bird droppings, pollution and general Cape Town weather. Over time, that buildup can affect how much sunlight reaches the panel surface.
The tricky part? You might not notice it happening. Your system can still be producing power, just not necessarily as efficiently as it could.

A proper module clean helps remove that layer of grime and allows more sunlight to reach the cells. ☀️

And honestly… sometimes you just need to see the before and after to appreciate the difference. 👀

✅ Electrical qualification or recognised electrical/trade certification
✅ Relevant certification/competency to carry out electrical testing and measurements
✅ Basic understanding of electrical systems and solar PV
✅ Valid Driver’s Licence
✅ Solar PV experience or PV-specific training will be an advantage
✅ Comfortable working at heights
✅ Strong commitment to safety and quality

🔩 TORQUE MATTERS — AND IT’S EASY TO OVERLOOK

Your PV system is exposed to wind, vibration, temperature changes and the elements every day.
Over time, these conditions can contribute to mechanical connections becoming loose or deteriorating.
That’s why checking mechanical connections and verifying torque where required should be an important part of an annual PV inspection.

It’s a simple check that can help identify issues early, before they lead to movement, damage or more costly corrective work.

⚡ FROM DETERIORATION TO RESTORATION — WHY ELECTRICAL ENCLOSURES NEED ATTENTION

Your electrical enclosure protects some of the most critical components of a solar PV system.
But what happens when the enclosure itself starts to deteriorate?

These before-and-after images show a DB enclosure that required attention during maintenance.
Exposure to sun, rain, moisture, dust and changing environmental conditions can take its toll over time. Corrosion, damaged surfaces, compromised seals, water ingress and blocked or inadequate ventilation can all affect the condition and protection of the equipment inside.
An enclosure may still be functioning, but that doesn't mean it should be overlooked.

🔎 Regular O&M inspections can help identify:
• Corrosion and deterioration
• Signs of water or moisture ingress
• Damaged seals and enclosure components
• Dust and contamination
• Ventilation issues
• Deterioration that may compromise the enclosure's protective function

🌬️ WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CHECKED YOUR FILTERS?

It’s easy to look at a solar PV system and focus on the panels, inverters and production figures.
But sometimes, the smallest maintenance task can make a big difference.

Take a look at this filter. 👀
Dust and debris can gradually build up over time, particularly on equipment operating in dusty or harsh environments.

So why does keeping equipment filters clean matter?
❕️Restricted filters can reduce the airflow available for equipment cooling.
❕️Reduced airflow can contribute to higher operating temperatures where the equipment relies on forced-air cooling.
❕️Excessive heat can cause equipment designed with thermal protection to reduce output or shut down, depending on the equipment and operating conditions.
❕️Keeping cooling paths and filters maintained helps the equipment operate within its intended environmental and thermal conditions.

And here's the important part:
A filter doesn't have to be completely blocked before it needs attention.
Regular inspection and cleaning, carried out in accordance with the equipment manufacturer's maintenance requirements, can help keep cooling systems operating as intended.

🔧 PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE: WHAT ARE YOU ACTUALLY PREVENTING

A solar PV system doesn't have to be broken before it needs maintenance.
Solar installations are exposed to heat, UV, wind, moisture, dust and vibration every day. Over time, these conditions can contribute to deterioration, loose connections, corrosion, damaged components and other issues that can affect the reliability of the system.

Preventative maintenance is about finding those issues before they become failures.

During an O&M inspection, we look at the condition of the equipment and identify potential issues such as:
🔍 Electrical connections and terminations
🔍 Cable management and DC/AC cabling
🔍 PV connectors and signs of deterioration
🔍 Earthing and bonding
🔍 Protection equipment and distribution boards
🔍 Inverters and associated equipment

Earthing isn't just a green and yellow cable, it's one of the most critical safety systems on any solar PV installation.⚡️

However, during our Operations & Maintenance inspections, we regularly identify loose earth connections, corroded conductors, damaged earth cables, missing earth bonds, and components that are no longer effectively earthed.

These issues can develop over time due to environmental exposure, corrosion, vibration, maintenance activities, accidental damage, or system modifications.

Why does this matter?
An effective earthing and bonding system provides a low-impedance path for fault current. This helps protective devices operate as intended and reduces the risk of dangerous touch voltages during electrical fault conditions.

If the earthing system is compromised, the consequences can include:
⚠️ Fault currents may not clear promptly or as designed
⚠️ Metal frames and equipment may become energised during fault conditions, increasing the risk of electric shock
⚠️ Protective devices may not operate as intended
⚠️ Equipment may be more susceptible to damage during fault conditions or lightning related events
⚠️ Increased downtime, costly repairs, and reduced system reliability.

The concerning part? Many earthing defects aren't obvious during a routine visual inspection and are often only identified through proper testing. A system can continue generating power while hidden safety defects remain.
