Slate roofs require a different mounting method to ensure the roof remains secure and watertight.

While the slate tiles are the visible part of the roof, the real waterproofing comes from the membrane beneath them. That's why correct fixations and installation techniques are so important.

For slate roofs, we use specialised hanger bolts with heavy-duty rubber grommets that create a watertight seal before the solar mounting rails are installed. ☀️

🎓 One solar upgrade just helped a school.

We're just leaving a client in Atlantic Beach, and today isn't actually about the new system we've installed...

It's about the old one. ☀️

The original system was installed by the builder when the house was constructed. While it worked, it was never properly matched to the homeowner's actual energy requirements. As the family's needs evolved, it became clear that the system was no longer the right fit for the property.

That's why we upgraded them to a solution designed specifically around their current consumption, backup requirements, and future needs. ⚡

Rather than letting the old system sit unused, the client has generously donated it to the iThemba Project.

That donation will allow us to recycle and repurpose the equipment, creating approximately R3,500 worth of positive impact for the school. 🎉

This is one of the things we love most about the solar industry. Equipment that still has value can continue making a difference long after it's removed from its original installation.

⚠️ One missing bootlace could become tomorrow's fault.

We're inspecting a DB board and something immediately stands out...

Most of these cable terminations have bootlaces (also known as ferrules) fitted correctly. But one cable has been terminated without one. 👀

Why does that matter?

🔧 These are multi-stranded conductors.

When you tighten a screw terminal directly onto bare strands, the strands can spread apart and splay under pressure.

That can lead to:

⚠️ Poor contact
⚠️ Increased resistance
⚠️ Heat build-up
⚠️ Loose connections over time

The connection may work perfectly today, but electrical faults often develop slowly rather than immediately.

A bootlace keeps all the strands together, provides a solid termination point, and helps ensure the connection remains secure for years to come.

It's a small detail, but good electrical work is all about getting the small details right. ⚡
