REFRIGERATION H VAC & AIR CONDITIONING TECHNICIAN REQUIRED
1. Job Overview
The Commercial Refrigeration Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and servicing of commercial refrigeration systems and equipment. The role requires technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot refrigeration systems across a variety of commercial and industrial environments.
2. Key Responsibilities
• Installation & Commissioning:
o Install, set up, and commission new refrigeration systems, cooling units, and equipment.
o Ensure systems are installed according to manufacturer specifications, local codes, and company guidelines.
• Maintenance & Repairs:
o Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM) and corrective maintenance (CM) on refrigeration systems.
o Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair issues in refrigeration equipment, including compressors, evaporators, condensers, and associated controls.
o Handle refrigerant management including recovery, recycling, and disposal, in compliance with legal regulations (e.g., SANS, SAQA).
• Servicing & Upgrades:
o Conduct regular servicing to ensure equipment operates efficiently and meets performance standards.
o Recommend and implement system upgrades or replacements as necessary.
o Maintain service logs and document all work completed.
• Customer Interaction:
o Provide excellent customer service, including explaining repairs, solutions, and maintenance advice to clients.
o Provide technical support for troubleshooting and offer guidance for operational efficiency.
• Compliance & Safety:
o Ensure all work is done in compliance with safety standards and relevant legislation (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act).
o Maintain up-to-date knowledge of refrigeration regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
o Follow procedures to ensure the correct handling and disposal of hazardous materials, including refrigerants.
• Inventory & Stock Control:
o Keep track of tools, equipment, and spare parts inventory.
o Order and manage stock levels of commonly used parts and equipment.
3. Required Qualifications & Experience
• Education:
o Matric / National Senior Certificate (Grade 12).
o A recognized qualification in Refrigeration and Air-conditioning (NQF Level 4 or equivalent).
o Certification or qualification in handling refrigerants (e.g., SAQCC certification).
• Experience:
o Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Commercial Refrigeration Technician, with a strong focus on servicing and maintaining commercial refrigeration systems.
o Experience with various refrigeration systems including air-conditioning, cold storage units, freezers, display fridges, etc.
o Experience in troubleshooting and diagnosing faults in refrigeration systems.
• Technical Skills:
o Proficient knowledge of refrigeration principles, electrical systems, and HVAC systems.
o Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, blueprints, and service manuals.
o Familiar with refrigerants such as R134A, R410A, R404A, R290, etc.
o Competent in using diagnostic and measuring tools, such as pressure gauges, thermometers, and multi-meters.

5. Working Conditions
• The position requires travel to client sites for service calls, maintenance, and installations.
• Overtime or emergency callouts may be required based on client needs or equipment breakdowns.
• Work is generally performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including potentially cold or noisy conditions.
• Must be able to work at heights (for example, on ladders or scaffolding) or in confined spaces (such as plant rooms).
6. Desired Skills & Additional Qualifications
• Driver’s License (Code 8 or higher): Ability to drive a company vehicle to various sites.
• Welding or basic electrical knowledge: An added advantage for system repairs and modifications.
• Knowledge of energy-efficient systems: Experience with energy-saving technologies and the implementation of eco-friendly refrigeration systems.
• Fluent in English & Afrikaans (or other South African languages): Beneficial for communication with clients and team members.
