Public Notice: Security Service Compliance
It is a criminal offence to hire a non-registered security provider or to offer security services without proper registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSiRA).
Private Investigations are also classified as security services and must be registered with PSiRA.
Verify Your Provider’s Compliance
Always verify your security provider’s PSiRA registration. If you find that a provider is not compliant, report them immediately to [email protected].
Legal Consequences for Non-Compliance
Under Clause 13(3)(g) of the PSIRA legislation, consumers (companies or body corporates) are responsible for ensuring that their security service provider is registered and compliant with all relevant laws, including tax, employee benefits, and insurance regulations.
If a consumer is found guilty of hiring a non-compliant security provider, they could face severe legal consequences, such as:
# A fine of up to R1 million
# Up to 2 years imprisonment for the responsible official of the company or body corporate
This highlights the importance of verifying that your security provider is fully compliant with all regulations to avoid legal and financial repercussions.
Non-Compliant Providers
PSiRA has been actively shutting down non-compliant security businesses, with over 4,000 businesses closed and 4,200 arrests made. If your security provider is quoting under PSiRA
rates or failing to meet compliance standards, they may be operating illegally, putting you and your business at risk.
Ensure your security provider is fully registered with PSiRA to safeguard your business from potential penalties and substandard service.
For assistance or verification, contact or visit the PSiRA website.
