Careca’s solid timber entrance doors are premium, heavy-duty exterior solutions crafted entirely from solid wood. Construction
Material: Manufactured from solid timber planks or laminated solid timber sections (commonly hardwoods such as meranti, saligna, kiaat, oak, or other durable species).
Core: Entirely solid throughout—no hollow or semi-solid infill—providing maximum strength and weight.
Joints: Precision machined mortise and tenon or dowelled joints, bonded with high strength adhesives for long-term durability.
Panels: Can be built with solid timber panels (raised or flat) or left flush depending on design.
Thickness: Typically, 44–45 mm or more, meeting SABS dimensional standards for entrance doors.
Surface: Supplied in natural timber face for finishing, with customization options such as grooved, panelled, or louvre cut outs.
Hardware Compatibility: Designed to accommodate heavy-duty locks, hinges, and closers, essential for entrance security.

Masonite, Hardboard & MDF (Supawood) Explained

We often receive enquiries regarding the difference between Masonite and MDF (Supawood), and would like to provide some clarification.
Masonite was originally a well-known brand of hardboard that became so widely used that many people began referring to all hardboard products as "Masonite Doors." However, the Masonite manufacturing operations have since closed, and genuine Masonite is no longer readily available in South Africa.
As a result, the industry has largely transitioned to using MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard), commonly known as Supawood, for painted doors, panels, and joinery. MDF offers a smooth, uniform surface that is ideal for painting and has become the standard material used in place of Masonite for many applications.
While hardboard (Masonite) and MDF (Supawood) are different engineered wood products, they serve a similar purpose where a high-quality painted finish is required. For this reason, many people still use the term "Masonite" when referring to painted doors or panels, even though the material supplied today is typically MDF (Supawood).
The key benefits of MDF (Supawood) include:
• Smooth, consistent surface for painting.
• Excellent paint adhesion and finish quality.
• Stable, uniform construction with no natural wood grain.
• Widely accepted as the industry standard for painted applications.
If a natural timber appearance is required, we recommend using a veneer or solid timber product, as MDF is specifically intended for painted finishes.
