Following on from our previous post introducing the overall building concept, this video focuses on the inner courtyard at the centre of the theatre and arts building.

The loosely placed oval geometry softens the movement patterns typically found within the school, allowing for multiple routes and informal encounters around the courtyard edge. The courtyard becomes both an orientating space and a public room within the building.

In contrast to the inward focus of the theatre below, the rooftop theatre opens outward toward the school environment - a flexible elevated space for gathering, informal performance and views across the campus.

Concept design for the El Shaddai Music, Theatre and Arts Centre.

The existing school buildings follow a rigid and highly ordered arrangement of facebrick forms and axial spaces. In contrast, the new arts building is conceived as a simple oval volume — a softer and more public form within the school environment.

Positioned slightly loose from the existing order, the building is intended to feel distinct when approached, creating a moment of transition from the everyday rhythm of the school toward spaces dedicated to music, performance and creative expression.

Aquifer Recharge Plant, designed by SALT Architects and completed in 2024, is an industrial water infrastructure project located in Cape Town, South Africa. The facility forms part of the Cape Flats Managed Aquifer Recharge system, addressing long term water supply through treatment and groundwater replenishment.

The plant is organized as a series of linear processing volumes adapted to a flat coastal site. Its layout follows the sequence of water treatment, where filtration, purification, and recharge processes are distributed across clearly defined zones. Structural and enclosure systems respond to harsh environmental conditions, including strong winds and corrosive air, using durable materials and controlled openings.

The project integrates infrastructure with landscape, positioning technical systems within a low profile built form that minimizes visual impact. The architecture expresses process logic, where spatial organization directly corresponds to stages of water treatment and distribution.
