Saturday morning before 5am I got a call for a python in a chicken coup in Ndwedwe which is an hour away from me. Unfortunately no one else was available to attend so I ended up embarking on the long drive. Thankfully it was worth it and the snake was rescued alive and healthy. The python was released in a suitable game reserve.

This morning I received a call for a Black mamba in Inchanga, a shorter drive and an easy catch which turned out to be a black mamba of around 2.2m.

Busy snake weekend with this warm weather.

Midnight call for a Southern African python in a chicken coup.

On Saturday night just before midnight I recieved a call for a python that was stuck in a chicken coup in Embo near Hillcrest after eating a chicken. Fortunately the residents of the house called for help having it relocated instead of resorting to more grim measures. By the time we arrived the python had regurgitated the chicken out of stress due to the commotion around it which is clearly illustrated in the video. An easy catch as the python was confined to the coup.

The python was safely released in a game reserve.

Please note Southern African pythons are protected by law and are not allowed to be killed.

Black mamba removed from chicken coop in Kwanyuswa. The mamba was probably attracted to the rats that come to the chicken coop for some chicken food. Easy catch and safely relocated.

Recieved a call for this black mamba that was trying to escape the heat by finding a cool spot in someone's house in Embo. Thankfully someone watched the snake the whole time until I arrived which made for an easy catch this is always much appreciated by snake rescuers as its a daunting task looking in a cluttered room for a snake.

The mamba was released back into a suitable habitat away from people.

Releasing the cobra in a natural habitat far away from people. The chicken heard in the video is an escapee who has obviously ventured far away from his home.

Notice the stubby tail of the cobra from an old injury.

Recieved a call for a Mozambique Spitting Cobra in Durban this evening. Straightforward catch as the caller watched the snake where it was in a shed until I arrived. Very docile old chap with some battle wounds, noticeably with a stubby tail from an old injury. The snake will be released in a natural habitat far away from people.

After a long spell with no significant call outs I was lucky to go on an unusual call for a Southern African Python. Staff at Umgeni water in the Inanda dam area called in about a large python that was spotted at their fence line trying to get out of their property. Thankfully they kept an eye on it until we arrived using their vehicles to provide light and stopping it from disappearing. Easy catch as the fence helped me to restrain its head. Took a few pictures and then we were off to release this beautiful large specimen. This was an extremely special catch and I hope the python lives a long and happy life. It was extremely refreshing to see how the staff at Umgeni water respected the snake and were mindful of its importance in our ecosystem and did not want to harm the snake. Big ups to them.

Please note this is a protected species and it is illegal to kill these snakes or keep them in captivity without a permit.

Also a special moment my mom was able to get a chance to hold this snake all by herself.

My biggest mamba so far.

Yesterday just after 18:00 I recieved a call for a Black mamba that had gone into a family's garage in Molweni. I rushed off and luckily from the time they called me till I arrived they kept an eye on its location which made for a very easy uneventful catch. In this case they did everything right by firstly calling for assistance and not killing the poor snake and secondly keeping an eye on the mamba till I arrived, I am very grateful to these people and I hope they can influence their neighbors to do the same if they are ever faced with the same situation. This family understood the ecological importance of snakes in the ecosystem and the role they play in the food chain. Every animal has a purpose in maintaining a healthy environment.

This specimen measured 2.7m which is my biggest black mamba that I've personally caught since taking up this hobby.

The mamba was safely released this morning in a suitable habitat.

1st Black mamba of 2024 for me.

Caught inside a cabinet in an outside storeroom on a property in Embo, Valley of 1000 hills. Had 16 people watching the catch so was relieved to find the snake otherwise it would have been quite a long conversation reassuring the crowd that the snake was long gone.

The mamba was safely released in a suitable natural habitat.
