Cementitious waterproofing definitely has its' benefits as only half the passage/staircase can be applied at a time (resident access). Concentrated copolymer latex, or liquid latex is added when levelling the floor, applying the flexible membrane as well as the top coating. Latex offers elasticity and is water repellent by nature.

Damp-proofing externally. Even using mechanical tools, the prep work is quite labour intensive. Heavy duty drills ensure the specified depth & width of the cavity required. Highly concentrated silicone/acrylic is then squirted into the cavity until completely filled, and then plugged. The "cream" diffuses along the mortar/porous bricks and cures to form a water-repellent base.
