Material Monday - Straw has long been used in architecture, valued for its sustainability, insulation, and affordability. In construction, straw bales can serve as load-bearing walls or as infill within structural frames, offering both insulation and fire resistance due to their density when tightly packed. Straw is a renewable resource, widely available and highly insulating, making it ideal for eco-friendly, energy-efficient buildings. Straw bale structures have low environmental impact, as straw is an agricultural byproduct and requires minimal processing. When properly maintained, straw buildings can be highly durable, supporting both traditional and modern architectural designs.
