Belated thanks to Herman Miller and SCAPE Magazine for the recent feature, “Prioritising Performance” with Boogertman + Partners director Richard Wilkins. The collaboration explored the relationship between design, wellness and workplace productivity through the lens of Herman Miller’s iconic Aeron chair – a benchmark in ergonomic and contemporary workplace design, and an enduring favourite among architects and designers alike. Thank you to everyone involved in this insightful collaboration and conversation about workplace design and this design landmark that undeniably shaped the way we work for the better.

Boogertman + Partners achieves Level 1 B-BBEE status.✔️

Boogertman + Partners is proud to announce that we have achieved Level 1 Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) status, improving on our previous Level 2 rating.

This milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to transformation, diversity and inclusive economic participation within the built environment.

For us, transformation is about far more than compliance. It is about creating meaningful opportunities, investing in people, nurturing emerging talent and helping shape a profession that reflects the diversity, creativity and potential of South Africa.

Through bursaries, mentorship programmes, internships, job-shadowing opportunities and continued employee development, we remain committed to supporting the next generation of architects and designers while building an inclusive and empowering workplace culture.

We believe diverse perspectives strengthen innovation, creativity and design excellence — and we are excited to continue contributing meaningfully to the future of the built environment in Africa.

The winners of the inaugural Africa International Design Awards have been announced, and we’re delighted to feature among the projects recognised in this exciting new programme.

The awards aim to “celebrate African designers while fostering a global conversation about Africa’s role in shaping the future of design” – an ambition we are proud to support and contribute to through our work across the continent.

We received recognition for the following projects and design concepts:

Winners
• Al Ahly Stadium | Winner – Architecture / Cultural Building Architecture
• God’s Window Skywalk | Winner – Other Architectural Projects
• Arena-in-a-Box | Winner – Architecture / Cultural Building Architecture

Honourable Mention

• Pongwe Beach Resort | Honourable Mention – Architecture / Hospitality Architecture

We really appreciated the jury comments, which included: “This is the present and in many regards the future of antifragility…!” (Arena-in-a-Box ) and “Despite the scale, the project remains grounded. It is a great composition for a great team.” (Al Ahly Stadium)

Congratulations to the organisers on the launch of this important new platform. Celebrating African design excellence and innovation is vital in shaping the future of our cities, communities and continent – and we are honoured to see our work recognised alongside so many visionary projects.

UBUNIFU 2026 is here!
The second edition of the Ubunifu Student Programme is officially launching, and we’re inviting third- and fifth-year architecture students from participating universities across Kenya to apply.
Hosted through our Nairobi studio, this eight-week mentorship programme offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, strengthen design and presentation skills and engage with architecture through research, narrative and exhibition-making.
𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲: “𝗨𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗲”
Who decides what is seen?
Kenya’s museums and cultural institutions hold extensive collections of carefully preserved material histories, yet much of this remains outside public consciousness. This year’s programme challenges participants to explore the tension between what exists, what is visible and what remains unseen.
Using archival materials and museum collections as a point of departure, participants will develop exhibition-driven architectural responses that bridge the gap between the museum and the public. Through temporary interventions, students will investigate storytelling, interpretation and perception, opening space for future discourse.
The programme includes:
• Museum visits
• Narrative and storytelling workshops
• Architectural and conceptual presentation skills
• Material research
• New programme tools
• Final exhibition
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆:
Submit your portfolio to: [email protected]
Applicants are encouraged to tailor their portfolios to demonstrate skills and interests relevant to the brief. One 3rd-Year and one 5th-Year student from each participating university will be selected.

We’re excited to introduce a new video series at Boogertman + Partners, which we’re calling Notes from the Studio.
In each episode, we’ll take a few minutes to step into our studios and chat with the people behind the projects – exploring what they’re working on, thinking about or have recently completed. The plan is to provide a glimpse behind the scenes of the practice and share some of the energy, creativity and perspectives that shape our work every day.

Our inaugural conversation features candidate architect Dyuneko Maluleke, who joined Boogertman + Partners earlier this year. He reflects on his experience as a finalist in the recent Corobrik Student Architecture Awards after taking top honours at Wits University last year, and joining Boogertman + Partners.

Stay tuned for more conversations from the studio.
