Over the past few weeks, we have witnessed the devastating impact of severe flooding across parts of the Western and Eastern Cape, and the stories emerging from rural and agricultural communities are deeply sobering.

Farms have been left underwater. Orchards and vineyards, many representing years of investment and care, have been destroyed. In some areas, even the land itself has been washed away.

Critical infrastructure, from roads and bridges to irrigation systems, has been severely damaged, cutting off entire farming areas and disrupting livelihoods.

For many farmers and farm workers, this is more than a weather event, it is a loss of income, security, and years of hard work. Behind every hectare lost is a family, a workforce, and a community navigating uncertainty with courage.

WinField United SA extends our sincere support and compassion to every individual and community affected.

This moment calls for empathy, solidarity, and action, whether through direct support, partnerships, or simply amplifying awareness of the challenges on the ground.

South Africa’s agricultural sector has always shown remarkable resilience, and we will stand alongside you as you rebuild.

South Africa continues to set the benchmark in global agriculture, officially becoming the world’s largest citrus exporter by volume. This remarkable achievement is a reflection of the resilience, innovation and dedication across the entire agricultural value chain.

Congratulations to every team and team member who made this possible. Every season, growers, packhouses, logistics partners and agricultural teams work tirelessly to deliver world-class produce to markets around the world.

WinField United SA could not be more proud to be part of this industry that continues to grow, compete and lead on the global stage.

The Journey 5km – stepping up for mental well-being.

Jan Vermaak, CEO of WinField United South Africa, joined the Villa Crop Protection Paarl team today in taking part in the WinField United Canada 5km initiative, The Journey 5km.

The initiative was created to support mental health and help reduce burnout as teams head into the busy growing season. Participants complete a simple 5km run or walk while opening up conversations around mental well-being and taking time to check in with family, friends, and colleagues.

Agriculture is built on deep rural roots, resilience, hard work, and strong community values. While these strengths define the industry, they can also make it more difficult to speak up or seek help when it is needed. Across agriculture, stress, anxiety, emotional exhaustion, and burnout remain real challenges that deserve more open conversation and support.

Initiatives like The Journey 5km help create space for connection, awareness, and shared responsibility across the industry.

We are proud to support and participate in the METOS by Pessl Instruments launch of deploying 100 000 weather stations in Africa.

Jan Vermaak (CEO): "Optimal agriculture in Africa relies on collaboration, we must move into building strong ecosystems to unlock the full potential".

Access to reliable, field-level data, and more importantly, the ability to translate it into actionable decisions, is key to building resilient and profitable farming systems.

At WinField United South Africawe know that data alone doesn’t drive results - insight does.

We are proud to support and participate in the upcoming Pessl Instruments launch in South Africa, where our CEO, Jan Vermaak, will be sharing perspectives on: “Cutting Through the Noise: Why Insight Matters More Than Information.”

In an environment where farmers face increasing weather variability and rising pressure on resources, risk management has never been more critical. Access to reliable, field-level data, and more importantly, the ability to translate it into actionable decisions, is key to building resilient and profitable farming systems.

Grow more. Risk less.

Today we pause to reflect on and honour a beloved former leader of Villa Crop Protection, Dr André Schreuder, who passed away on 17 March 2026.

Dr Schreuder was a man who left deep footprints - "hy het diep spore getrap" - shaping not only the business, but the very path on which we continue to walk today. His vision and leadership were instrumental in the formation of the WinField United South Africa group of companies, laying a foundation that still supports and guides us.

He was far more than a capable business builder. He led with clarity of vision, with spirit, and with genuine heart. He had the rare ability to combine sharp strategic thinking with humility and care for people.

A true gentleman, and a giant in every sense and his influence will continue to be felt for generations to come. We honour his contribution, we carry his legacy forward, and we remain deeply thankful for the path he helped create.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. May his legacy continue to inspire us.

🌱 Proud to support the Chair in Plant Health!

Through the Stellenbosch University's Chair Plant Health, knowledge transfer empowers farmers to make smarter decisions. Understanding how water quality, surface tension, and absorption affect pesticide efficacy helps growers select the right adjuvants for maximum, stable, and effective pest control – leading to better agriculture for all.

A difficult time for South African communities and agriculture. Our thoughts are with all growers and communities affected by the recent raging wildfires in the Western and Eastern Cape, as well as the floods and storms impacting Mpumalanga and Limpopo.

These events have destroyed thousands of acres and disrupted livelihoods across the agricultural sector.

Devastating challenges won’t stop South African growers. With agility, grit, and dedication, they keep our food on the table. WinField United SA stands with our growers and the entire industry.
