🚧 CITY OF EKURHULENI OFFICIALLY HANDS OVER MULTI-MILLION-RAND WASTEWATER PUMP REPLACEMENT PROJECT TO ERWAT

Today, ERWAT had the honour of hosting City of Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Ald. Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, accompanied by Cllr Jean Sthato, MMC for Metro Trading Services, and Cllr Nomadlozi Nkosi, MMC for Operations and Maintenance, for the official handover of the ERWAT Wastewater Pump Replacement Project at ERWAT’s Waterval Water Care Works in Meyerton.

ERWAT leadership present included Board Member Mr Roy Mkhonza, ERWAT Managing Director Mr Kennedy Chihota, who delivered a presentation on the project, Ms Shuntelle Gow Executive Manager: Strategy, Monitoring & Evaluation (SME), Mr Emmanuel Khomela Executive Manager: Infrastructure Planning & Projects (IPAP), Mr Mpho Makgatha (Executive Operations and Maintenance), and Ms Gratitude Ramphaka Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Implemented between the 2023 and 2026 financial years, the multi-million-rand project delivered the replacement and commissioning of 373 critical wastewater pumps across all 19 ERWAT Water Care Works.

The upgraded pumps will improve operational reliability, reduce the risk of breakdowns and sewage spills, and support effective wastewater treatment. These improvements benefit 4.2 million residents by strengthening wastewater services, protecting rivers and safeguarding communities and ecosystems from untreated effluent.

This milestone reinforces ERWAT’s commitment to infrastructure renewal, environmental protection and sustainable wastewater management.

ERWAT – Excellence in Water Care.
