TEMPORARY MANHOLE AND SINKHOLE REHABILITATION IN KNYSNA CBD 📢
The Municipality will be undertaking temporary works to sewer manholes and sinkhole-related rehabilitation within the CBD. These upgrades aim to address essential infrastructure needs and ensure the safety and proper functioning of the sewer system in affected areas. 🛠️
🚦 Streets Affected
• Intersection of Grey & Rawson Streets
• Intersection of Rawson & Mortimer Streets
• Clyde Street
• Waterfront Drive
• Mortimer Street
📍 Scope of Work:
1. Rawson, Mortimer, Grey Street Intersections
At these intersections, the following tasks will be carried out:
• Excavation to expose existing manhole cover slabs
• Removal of existing cover slabs
• Compaction of the in-situ layer
• Addition of a levelling layer using sandbags
• Installation of new 1.8m diameter cover slabs
• Backfilling at the sides of the cover slabs
• Application of premix to the sides
Each intersection is expected to take approximately 3 days to complete. Temporary road closures will be in effect on Gray Street, Mortimer Street, and Rawson Street during this time. 🚧
2. Clyde Street, Waterfront Drive, Mortimer Street
The planned works include:
• Excavation to expose the sewer pipe
• Repair of the exposed pipe
• Backfilling of the excavation
• Completion of road layers, including G5/G4 and premix layer
Repairs are estimated to take 3 days, depending on pipe depth and water table levels. The Mortimer Street repair will require extra steps such as dewatering and shoring, adding approximately 5 more days. 🕒
🗓️ Project Schedule
• Grey & Rawson Street Intersection: Commencing Wednesday, 26th November
• Rawson & Mortimer Street Intersection: Commencing Monday, 1st December
• Clyde & Waterfront Drive: Planned to commence together on Wednesday, 3rd December
• Mortimer Street Repair: Commencing Thursday, 4th December
