What is an Electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC) and How Is It Issued?
An Electrical Certificate of Compliance (CoC) is an official document that proves an electrical installation is safe and meets national safety standards.
How Is It Issued?
1. Inspection:
A qualified, registered electrician inspects the electrical installation to ensure everything is correctly installed and safe.
2. Testing:
The electrician performs tests on the system to verify that circuits, wiring, and safety devices are functioning properly.
3. Fixing Issues (if needed):
If any problems are found during the inspection or testing, they must be fixed before the CoC can be issued.
4. Issuing the CoC:
Once everything is safe and compliant, the electrician fills out and signs the CoC. This document includes the property details, the electrician’s credentials, and confirmation that the installation meets safety standards.
5. Record Keeping:
You’ll receive a copy of the CoC for your records, and the electrician will keep one on file for future reference.
Why Do You Need It?
• To confirm your property’s electrical safety.
• It’s often required when selling property, for insurance purposes, or when connecting to the power supply.
