Thermal imaging inspections provide a non-intrusive and highly effective way to detect potential electrical faults before they lead to failure.

Using drone-based thermal imaging and high-resolution temperature analysis, we assess critical infrastructure including overhead power lines, substation equipment, switchgear and MCC panels, transformers, cable terminations, joints, and busbar connections.

Keeping operations running during load shedding.

Ugezi Automation recently designed and built a fully automatic closed-transition changeover system to ensure seamless power transfer for an industrial facility.

The system incorporates a DSE 8620 MKII controller and dual ABB SACE Emax 2 1000A air circuit breakers, allowing the generator to start 15 minutes before scheduled load shedding and synchronize with the utility supply.

If the grid fails, the system performs a closed-transition transfer, ensuring zero interruption to operations.

When power returns, the system re-synchronizes with Eskom, smoothly transfers the load back to mains supply, and automatically shuts down the generator after cool-down.

6.6kV Motor Control System Upgrade – Project in Progress

Ugezi recently completed a major upgrade to a 6.6kV motor control system to improve reliability, protection, and operational safety.

The existing Direct-On-Line (DOL) motor starters were outdated and provided limited protection capabilities. Our team removed the old system and designed a custom control panel solution using modern ABB equipment.

The new installation includes:

• ABB SafePlus VD4 vacuum circuit breakers
• ABB REX615 protection relays
• 1 × Main incomer circuit breaker
• 3 × 6.6kV motor feeder circuit breakers
• Each feeder supplying a 450kW medium-voltage motor

This upgrade significantly improves:

✔ Motor and cable protection
✔ Fault detection and selective tripping
✔ System reliability and operational safety
✔ Future integration with SCADA and automation systems
