🌳 What happens to a tree after it's cut down?

One of the best uses for timber from tree removals is firewood.

A lot of people see a felled tree as waste. In reality, good timber still has plenty of value. Instead of sending everything away, larger sections of the trunk can be cut and split into firewood for homes, farms, guesthouses and braai areas.

The branches and smaller material can then be chipped and put back to work as mulch or biomass.

Not every tree is suitable for firewood, but when the timber is sound, it makes sense to use as much of it as possible.

The goal is simple. Make use of the material, reduce waste, and leave the site properly cleared.

At Overberg Biomass, we help crews, farms and estates deal with the wood left behind after tree work. From on-site chipping to biomass management, we make sure the job is finished properly.

Green waste is not always waste.

What gets left behind after pruning, clearing or removals can still do a job if it’s handled properly.

Branches and clean chip can help with:

🌿 Mulch around trees and gardens
🌿 Erosion control on farms and slopes
🌿 Moisture retention during dry months
🌿 Cleaner site management after removals
🌿 Biomass processing instead of dumping

The problem starts when piles sit too long, mix with rubbish or get left through wet weather. That’s where proper biomass management matters.

We help farms, estates, landscapers and arborists across the Overberg handle green waste properly with on-site chipping and stump grinding.

Use the material properly or the pile becomes the problem.

Rain changes everything on a green waste job.

A pile left sitting through wet weather gets heavier, harder to move and rougher to chip. Clean material turns into a soaked mess and access around the site gets worse fast.

We see it often around the Overberg after pruning or clearing work. A job that should’ve been wrapped up properly ends up sitting for weeks because the weather moved in first.

The better option is to chip on-site while the material is still dry enough to handle properly.

Overberg Biomass helps farms, estates, landscapers and arborists finish faster with on-site chipping and stump grinding across the Overberg.

Handle the pile before the rain does.

A place like Kirstenbosch takes many hands to keep it looking good.

Trees are cut back. Branches are cleared. Green waste is dealt with properly.

That is the part most people do not see.

Good biomass management turns that waste into something useful. Chips for mulch. Cleaner sites. Healthier soil.

Same care goes into gardens, estates, farms and golf courses across the Overberg.

Overberg Biomass helps finish that work properly.
