Western Joiners was founded by Mr Kretschmer, who emigrated from West Germany in 1951. From 1951 to 1957 Mr Kretschmer worked as a Foreman at Protea Timber, after which he started his own joinery and woodworking business called Westelike Skrynwerker (Western Joiners). Very soon this premises were outgrown and a decision was made to build a new premises in Versailles Street, Wellington. On the 1st of July 1983, Johann and Philip Dempers bought the company and they then moved to the premises of Paarlse Meubelmakers in Ambachtsvallei Street, Huguenot, Paarl. This is still the current premises. Johann and Philip Dempers kept the trading name and today Western Joiners (Westelike Skrynwerker) is well known throughout the Western Cape for its excellent quality craftsmanship, joinery, woodworking and the production of doors, windows and gates.
