On Sunday, 5 May 2024 at around 15:30 a tragic and reckless incident occurred on the corner of Gumtree and Pennington Drive where an alleged intoxicated driver in a bakkie made a deliberate hit and run on a young 13-year-old girl following an altercation about petrol money. Unfortunately, the young girl passed away on the scene.

Within minutes from the incident, security agencies, PCW responders, patrollers and SAPS were tracking down the individual and with the help of our surveillance cameras and positive identification of the vehicle involved, along with a detailed number plate to assist SAPS with the positive identification of this person.

At around 22:00 on Sunday evening, SAPS, PCW patrollers and responders along with Gladiator security where informed that the person returned to the Kelso area and started patrolling the area. We are pleased to announce that the individual has been apprehended and is currently in custody at the Scottburgh police station.

Through the selfishness acts of a single individual, multiple people’s lives have been destroyed, and our heart goes out to the family members of the victim, whom we understand was the only child. There is no place in society for someone who shows no value for human life.

PCW wishes to thank the responders, patrollers, SAPS, and our security agencies for pulling together to ensure an arrest of the suspect.

This month is a very special month for the PCW as we've just reached our 500 member that has joined PCW. Our members are the backbone of the PCW, and your contribution allows us to implement security measures that keep our community safe.

Reaching this milestone did not come overnight and we thank all the committee members and patrollers, SAPS and security companies that has worked tirelessly over the last decade to grow PCW to what it is today, but most importantly we thank our community for believing in us.

If you're not a PCW member yet, please consider joining the PCW. As a member your family has access to our emergency groups, which give you real-time insights into security matters related to Pennington. Membership is only R200 per household per month and your contribution helps us with various projects that benefit our community.

Dear Responders, Patrollers, and Security companies,

PCW would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Not only for participating in the drive-through in Pennington this evening, but for what you do for our community every single day.

Without you, the PCW would not function as the establishment that it is, and we appreciate each and every one of you.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and we hope this will drive both new members and patrollers to sign up and be part of our family.

Thank you to every member of the public that supported us with cheers and waves. It's much appreciated!

Kind regards,
Your Committee

It's amazing when the community works together to make a difference for everyone in our beautiful town.

A golf day was held on the 29th of February at Selborne Golf Estate organized by the Selborne Ladies, who was able to raise R5500 for the PCW Cameras Project by raffles. Various community members and businesses have donated and we truly welcome this suprize donation.

We thank you and everyone that was involved with this special day for your kind contributions and you can be rest assured the PCW team is putting your donation to good use by adding 3 new cameras to increase our growing Road Cameras Project.

THANK YOU!

We all know the state or the roads are terrible and none as bad as Edward Crescent that has a lot of traffic daily. So when the community and P&G Construction offers to repair potholes we make sure along with SAPS and Gladiator Security that the men can work without disruptions, relaying traffic to allow for the safe and prompt repairs of this dilapidated road. We thank the team at P&G and the community members for your commitment in making Pennington an even better town and the patrollers for offering up your Saturday to keep the team safe working on the roads. We can't wait to travel safely on the newly repaired road

It's the little things in live that often goes unnoticed but makes such a huge impact in our lives. As Pennington is hit with water problems, our PCW volunteers have helped water tankers travel safely and notifying residence when water can be located on their roads, all this on a Saturday evening. It's the spirit of our community that makes Pennington such a beautiful town, we thank our volunteers for your contribution to our welfare!

Over the past decade, committed members of the community came together and started the Pennington Community Watch with a simple goal, to work as a community to protect and help those in need.

PCW is solely run by volunteers who offer up their time and resources to patrol, respond and work with the SAPS and security companies in aiding those in need, whilst introducing and managing various emergency, security and surveillance channels.

Through the dedication of few, the PCW has grown from a handful of concerned citizens to a collective of Pennington Residents that believe in our cause, in believing in us to offer a helping hand when in the time of need.

We do this not because of our safety, but for you, the Pennington community. It’s your support that keeps us going, so thank you, and know that in a time of need, we’ll do our best to have your back.
