HE WAS ON TV AT 12. NOBODY ADOPTED HIM FOR FAME. ๐บ๐ค
His real name is Sidwell Sipho Ngwenya. He was born on 25 July 1982 in Kimberley, Northern Cape, and grew up moving between cities โ Kimberley to Cape Town to Johannesburg โ before he was even a teenager. His mother was not in the picture the way a mother should be. When he was 11 years old, singer June Diva Kraus adopted him. She did not adopt him because he was talented. She adopted him because he needed a home. The talent came after. โค๏ธ
At 12, South Africa already knew his face. He landed a presenting job on Kideo Pops โ performing and presenting in front of a national audience while most kids his age were still figuring out homework. He auditioned for the National School of the Arts for acting and fine arts and got in. By the time he graduated in 2001, he had already been on television for nearly a decade. ๐บ
After graduating, he spent a year as an apprentice at A&P Film and Video โ learning what happens behind the camera instead of in front of it. That year changed how he understood the industry. It led to him becoming production manager of Sandra Op'n Drafstap. Then Star Search from 1996 to 2000 โ the national talent competition that gave South Africa some of its biggest stars โ and he was the face presenting it all.
In 2005, he released his self-titled debut album featuring MXO, Skwatta Kamp and ProVerb โ and produced it himself. He followed it with Story to Tell in 2004, Afterparty in 2007 and Music Love and Fame in 2011. He produced music for Mandoza, Lebo Mathosa, MXO, Jamali, Lulo Cafรฉ, Mzekezeke and DJ Switch โ building one of the most quietly impressive production portfolios in SA music. ๐ค
Then in 2006, Generations came calling. He played Ajax โ a character that made the whole country stop and pay attention to a boy from Kimberley who had been on television for 14 years already. He stayed on the show until 2010. Then he walked away from acting and put everything into music and his record label.
He is engaged to Aamirah Mirah. He announced the engagement on his birthday while they were celebrating in Zanzibar. Connie Ferguson commented immediately: "Yes yes yes! I'm saying yes on her behalf as well! Congratulations!" His children have never been publicly mentioned. ๐
At 44 โ adopted at 11, on TV at 12, still building at 44. Some starts just hit different. ๐
