Northfield Homestead Documenting the start of our little Homestead. Our main focus is to become self sustaining, and have At the moment.. Juggling is now second nature to us.

HI, I’m Jason, and i would like to welcome you to the Northfield Homestead. Together with my partner Kane, we have decided to make a start toward having a sustainable homestead, on our little plot in South Africa. we are a far away from where we would love to be. With an old house, a never ending todo list, and working on the property between our day jobs. My plans started almost four years ago, when i started fathering a few Chickens. We now have over eight varieties of ducks and chicken, as well as two small aviaries. We decided to focus our effort on becoming more self sustaining during this troubling period, and log our progress for friends, family and likeminded individuals . Jason and Kane from Northfield Homestead had the pleasure of visiting our family friends at Brackenhill Farm & Orchid House, near Grahamstown / Makhanda, as part of Open Gardens 2026.

There’s something special about visiting beautiful places, spending time surrounded by nature, and finding inspiration in the gardens and projects of others. 🌺🌱

As many of you know, our journey at Northfield Homestead is all about starting over, rebuilding slowly, and creating a more sustainable life on our little plot here in South Africa. Along the way, we love discovering new places, meeting people who share our appreciation for nature, and sharing these experiences with you.
