*Air-Tek – Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence*
Founded in 1986 by Walter Keey and Abrie Wagenaar, Air-Tek was established during one of the most challenging periods in South Africa's economy. With many American-operated companies scaling back operations in Port Elizabeth, the economic outlook appeared uncertain. However, Walter and Abrie recognised an opportunity. Combining extensive industry expertise, determination, and a commitment to exceptional service, they founded a business built on quality, integrity, and long-term relationships.
From the very beginning, Air-Tek received outstanding support from many of the region's leading companies, who were looking for a trusted contractor capable of delivering high-quality air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation solutions while helping them manage costs. Those early partnerships laid the foundation for what would become four decades of sustainable growth.
Building a Reputation
By 1996, ten years after opening its doors, Air-Tek had established itself as a respected name within the HVAC industry. Alongside a growing service division, the company expanded its capabilities by opening its own sheet metal manufacturing facility. This investment enabled Air-Tek to deliver complete ventilation and ducting solutions while serving an expanding portfolio of national and multinational clients.
As the years passed, the projects became larger and more complex, but Air-Tek's commitment to quality workmanship, reliable service, and customer satisfaction never changed.
A New Generation
In 2012, as Air-Tek celebrated its 26th year in business, the company began implementing a carefully planned succession strategy to ensure its long-term future. Stephan became a shareholder in 2012, followed by Liezel and Richard in 2016.
By 2021, the succession plan had successfully come to fruition, with Richard, Stephan and Liezel proudly taking over the reins of Air-Tek. While embracing new ideas, technology and innovation, they have remained committed to the values on which the company was founded—quality, integrity, professionalism and exceptional customer service.
Continuing to Grow
Since taking ownership, the new leadership team has successfully completed numerous prestigious commercial and industrial HVAC projects across South Africa. Among the company's proudest achievements is the successful completion of the HVAC installation at The Capital Hotels Boardwalk, a flagship project that showcased Air-Tek's technical expertise, project management capabilities and commitment to delivering world-class solutions.
Today, Air-Tek continues to provide comprehensive air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration and custom ducting solutions to clients across a wide range of industries. The company remains committed to investing in its people, maintaining the highest standards of workmanship, and building lasting relationships with every customer.
