A Dusty Affair… but Preparation Is Everything.

A quality flooring system doesn’t start with the final coat — it starts with what happens underneath it.

Floor preparation may traditionally be a dusty affair, but with the correct equipment and controls, it doesn’t have to mean filling the entire building with dust.

Getting it right requires:

🔹 Proper equipment – Industrial grinding equipment suited to the substrate and required surface profile.

🔹 Almost dustless grinding – Our grinding machines are connected directly to industrial vacuum extraction units, capturing dust at the source as the surface is mechanically prepared.

🔹 Proper building extraction – In addition to extraction at the grinding equipment, adequate ventilation and building extraction are essential to control residual airborne dust and protect surrounding occupied areas.

🔹 Correct PPE – Even with effective dust-control measures in place, appropriate respiratory, eye, hearing and general protective equipment remains essential.

🔹 Skilled workers – Good equipment is only as effective as the people operating it. Experienced operators know how to achieve the required surface profile consistently without unnecessarily damaging the substrate.

The finish is only as good as the surface beneath it.

Even on residential roofs, surface preparation is critical.

The photo below is a good example of what happens when a coating system is applied without the correct preparation.

What may initially have been a cheaper application has now resulted in thousands of rands in remedial preparation before the roof can be coated correctly.

There is no shortcut to repairing this.

Our preparation process now requires:

- Every failed coating edge to be individually feather-edged
- The existing surface to be mechanically abraded to remove loose and poorly bonded material
- The entire roof to be high-pressure washed at a minimum of 2,500 psi
- Remaining defects and adhesion concerns to be addressed
- The new coating system to be carefully built up over the prepared areas before the final coats are applied

It is meticulous, labour-intensive work — but without it, you are simply putting a new coating over an existing problem.

Preparation is not an optional extra. It forms part of the coating system.

Unfortunately, not every contractor understands the importance of substrate preparation, product compatibility and correct application procedures. The property owner is often the one who carries the cost when the system eventually fails.

We are looking for an experienced Operations Supervisor with a proven background in the protective coatings, industrial painting, waterproofing or specialist coatings industry. This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for someone who can lead people, drive production, maintain exceptional quality standards and grow into a senior leadership role within our company.

· Conduct site inspections and quality control audits.
· Monitor project profitability and productivity.
