In the past few years, significant changes in global trade flow have enhanced the role of quality and standards in economic development. These global trade flows have resulted in subdued demand for South African exports to traditional trading partners, including the European Union and the United States of America. This creates the opportunity for South Africa to shift i

(SABS) supports government's Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP), which promotes the localisation of production and addresses the current economic trends. The SABS provides the platform for quality services and products which is the key differentiator in an increasingly competitive environment. The SABS strategic objective contributes to the efficient functioning of the economy by:
1. Developing standards to advance the socio-economic well-being of South Africa in the global economy.
2. Delivering relevant conformity assessment services that facilitate access to markets for South African industry, thereby improving its competitiveness in the global trade environment. Mahikeng Local Municipalityunicipality delegates recently visited the Sabs Standards Water Laboratory as part of ongoing efforts to monetise and strengthen the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Municipality and Sabs Standards.

The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to gain insight into SABSโ€™s water testing capabilities, laboratory processes, standards, and technical expertise. The engagement also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in water quality testing, compliance, capacity building, technical support, and the provision of standards-based solutions.

The discussions reaffirmed the importance of partnerships between municipalities and technical institutions such as Sabs Standards in supporting safe, reliable and quality water services for communities.

Together, we are turning partnerships into practical solutions for sustainable water service delivery.

As part of our Fitness Day, colleagues took on the 5KM Walk/Run at the SABS South African Bureau of Standards Head Office in Groenkloof, and the excitement was impossible to miss!

The SABS Approved Mark is more than just a mark , itโ€™s a sign that a product has been independently tested and meets national quality standards.

A plug that does not meet the necessary safety and quality requirements can increase the risk of electric shock, overheating, short circuits and electrical fires. Poor-quality plugs may also have inadequate insulation, weak connections or components that cannot safely handle the electrical load.

The SABS Approved Mark helps consumers identify products that have been tested and certified by SABS to meet the relevant standard. When you see the SABS Approved Mark , you can have greater confidence that the product has been assessed for safety and meets the required requirements

From the first box being unpacked to the exhibition stands going up, the preparations are complete and weโ€™re officially ready to welcome you!

The South African delegation, led by CEO Mr Blake Mosley-Lefatola, is participating in the 32nd African Organisation for Standardisation General Assembly taking place in Mombasa, Kenya.

The ARSO GA provides a strategic platform for African standards bodies to advance harmonisation of standards, mutual recognition, and the promotion of โ€œOne Standard. One Test. One Certificateโ€ in support of increased intra-African trade and the objectives of the ๐—”๐—ณ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ (๐—”๐—™๐—–๐—™๐—ง๐—”) Secretariat.
