LION PRIDE SCHOOL
DESIGN COMPETITION

Competition entry for the design of a new school in Cosmo City, Johannesburg.

Our concept design envisioned the school as a village, with pleasant courtyard spaces framed by the buildings, each with its own character and structure.

A pedestrian "boulevard" with greenery and seating connects the entrance to the Primary School and sport facilities, and the site has a ring road that provides service access, as well as access for parking on the sports field during larger functions.

Building forms are envisioned to be simple and built with robust materials.

We had the honour to be part of the COPAC Food Sovereignty Garden project on the WITS Braamfontein Campus in Johannesburg.

Located on a brown-filed site, with some existing structures, the brief was to design a garden space for the COPAC Food Sovereignty programme, together with a lightweight structure that could function as a meeting pod, to help facilitate learning and exchange of knowledge.

The garden provides a dedicated space and resources to support the campus agroecology gardens, together with supporting the campus' mission to address food security, by providing healthy food for food-stressed students, thereby promoting food sovereignty.
