Two identical tanks. The same food waste. Only one difference: one got a scoop of Bokashi Bran® and a sealed lid.
By week one, the untreated waste was already rotting and the flies had found the banana peel. In the treated tank, condensation on the glass showed the microbes hard at work, generating heat as they fermented.
By week two the difference was unmistakable. One tank swarming with flies. The other with a beautiful bloom of white fungi, the sign of healthy fermentation.
This is why it matters. Rotting food waste attracts flies and rats. A sealed bokashi bucket keeps flies out, and the acidic environment sends vermin looking for their rotting food elsewhere.
