National Home Builders Registration Council The National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) is a regulatory body of the home building industry.

Our goal is to assist and protect housing consumers who have been exposed to contractors who deliver housing units of substandard design, workmanship and poor quality material. No matter the size or value of your home building project the NHBRC is here to protect you, the housing consumer. Established in 1998, in accordance with the provisions of The Housing Consumers Protection Measures Act (Act

No. 95 of 1998) the NHBRC’s mandate is to protect the interests of housing consumers and to ensure compliance to regulated building industry standards.

Tamlyn Bouwer, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the NHBRC; Mimi Masal, Divisional Director of Operations at Cashbuild; Dr Ella Ford-Mthethwa, Chairperson of the International Relations Desk of the Black Management Forum (BMF); and Fortunate Seroka, representative of the TUT Building Science Department, joined Deputy Minister Tandi Mahambehlala for a panel discussion with built environment students from TUT, UJ, Wits and UNISA.

The discussion focused on leadership, transformation, access to opportunities, and the meaningful participation of women in the built environment sector, while encouraging young women to pursue careers and leadership roles within the industry.

The Department of Human Settlements and its entities remain committed to advancing the full participation of women across the human settlements value chain, including the implementation of initiatives aimed at ensuring that a minimum of 40% of procurement spend benefits women-owned enterprises.

NHBRC Acting Chief Executive Officer, Tamlyn Bouwer, will join the Deputy Minister of Human Settlements, Tandi Mahambehlala, at the closing event of the 2026 Women’s Month Campaign.

The event, which will feature a special session dedicated to Young Women in the Built Environment, will be held at the TUT Pretoria West Prestige Auditorium, Dinokeng (Building 21).

The engagement seeks to empower young women by fostering meaningful discussions on leadership, transformation, skills development, and access to opportunities within the built environment sector. It also aims to inspire greater participation and representation of women in shaping the future of the industry.

The NHBRC Acting Chief Executive Officer, Tamlyn Bouwer, joined Human Settlements Minister, Thembi Simelane, at the HDA Women Who Build the Nation Summit held in Sandton.

The summit brought together leaders from government, state entities, the private sector, academia, and civil society to advance dialogue on inclusive development, economic empowerment, and nation-building.

Addressing delegates, Minister Simelane called for greater unity among women in the built environment, highlighting the importance of unlocking investment opportunities, driving innovation, and creating an enabling environment for women to thrive across the human settlements sector.

The event reaffirmed the collective commitment to advancing women’s participation and leadership in shaping sustainable and inclusive human settlements.
