Hi everyone.
Our local Municipality have now on 3 different occasions denied the Hibiscus Coast residents their constitutional right to water. Staff have been sabotaging the water supply systems along the KZN South Coast and this has left the residents with damaged geysers and plumbing issues. We have put together a few tips for when we find ourselves in this very unfortunate situation.
• When the water supply goes off, first and foremost switch off the power supply to the geyser.
• If the hot water back feeds into the cold line when the water mains are off, call a plumber, as the geyser is syphoning back into the cold water line. You may need to replace the vacuum breaker or fit a non-return valve.
• When the water is back on, open a garden tap first to flush out the dirty water so mud doesn’t enter the house.
• When the service is restored and neighbours have good pressure but you don’t, clean the sieve on your pressure control valve.
• If only certain taps are affected with low pressure/flow, remove aerator from spout and clean it.
• HANDY TIP – if your shower head is blocked from lime scale, remove and soak it overnight in spirit vinegar.
• Consider having an inline filter system installed on your mains – removes all sediment/rust/scale from your water – as well as any chlorine/chemicals
Good luck, here’s hoping for a quick resolution.
