Normal day in construction: Splinter under your nail.. deep enough not to be able to get it out and sore enough to be a pain when doing admin. A cappuccino with cream (the Dutch way, sweetened). So.... the natural pool we made..
I dug out a water lilly from the Karatara river (goodness the smell) and one from the large pond next to the N2, close to Victoria bay..
We thought, lets add a few goldfish..... we are now about 10 weeks later and the proud "parents" of another 100 baby goldfish. They are worse than rabbits, for real. We are currently in the process of identifying goldfish recipes and have enrolled in a sushi class. Anyone wants a goldfish?

Tired to be honest, of "having to" post project pictures to "show how good I am".. Just feels so pushy and fake.. Anyway, rather than a post that is more an ad than anything, just a few pictures of what I really like: making something beautiful.. Sort of the art within my work. I like to (and my wife as well who is quite honestly, better than me), to combine materials, colours, old and new, to create atmosphere.
These pictures are to show the tiles, done yesterday. The light is not too great and makes the colours look a bit flat. But see how the tiles match with the colours on the wall-paper, the painting "The Milkmaid" from Johannes Vermeer. The cupboard will be sanded down to its original oak colour, the light is still to be fitted, but you get the picture.. It invites to make coffee dont you think?

How important is brick size! With joints of only around 10mm for mortar, these bricks are difficult to use. Our supplier...

How important is brick size! With joints of only around 10mm for mortar, these bricks are difficult to use. Our supplier replaced the affected pallets, and we could keep the wrong ones which we then used on a retaining wall, a win-win. Brick measurements were only standardized in 1974 in South Africa. Before that, every factory had their own bricks, with their own measurements, a mess....
