To ensure your solar geyser is functioning correctly, follow these steps:

• The simplest method is to monitor the panel temperature during the night.
• Record the temperatures of both the panel and the geyser.
• If the panel temperature exceeds that of the geyser or the ambient temperature, there may be back siphoning.
• Back siphoning leads to heat loss in the geyser, resulting in increased costs. To prevent this, clean the system and ensure all valves are operating properly.

It is advisable to service both the geyser and the solar system annually.

We have recently visited a new client that has not serviced the geyser in years. The system is a solar system and has given problems over the last year.
Our discovery was a lack of maintenance... The solar ports were completely blocked up. The pump packed up as a result as well as the air relief.

The system was flushed and descaled. Faulty components were replaced.

Remember with a system that works as it should you could save more than half your electricity in a month....

What to do when you think you have a water leak.

First close all taps in your house , check your water meter for the reading. Is the dail running? Yes then you have a leak.

Best is to see where water is pooling or if there is wet spots.

Close the water at teh meter or better yet the isolating valve after te meter.

Call your plumber and let him assist with the repair.

The unit gives you control over your geyser’s way of operation.
You can:
- regulate your energy usage
- manage the temperature
- see if something is wrong (eg. Thermostat, element, leak, excessive temperature loss, earthing problems, and also if the unit is overheating)

Help us with Energy month.

With May being South Africa's Energy Month, the City of Cape Town has requested that geyser owners turn them down to 60°C. According to the City, doing so will help to reduce the evening peak and will also decrease the monthly electricity bill.

We’ve encountered a few problems over the last couple of weeks especially burst geysers…

Why do geysers burst?

Most of the time burst geysers happen due to them not being serviced.

What does a service entail?
First, we drain the geyser and replace the sacrificial anode.
We check the element, thermostat, and vacuum breakers.

On solar geysers, we also check the non-return valves as well as the circulation pump.

If your hot water has a red/brown color to it, might be that your geyser is rusted.
