Topographical model to study a response for a dwelling on a steep site on the banks of the Breede River.
The masonry and concrete part of the ground floor areas are shaped and kept to a minimum to function as a datum to anchor suspended timber structure to mitigate disturbance of the topography.

The design process moves back and forth between site immersion and the more abstract space of the office, drawing on surveys and memory. The process of pencil rendering the 2D survey is a method of visualizing and contemplating the site in the office, while blurring the abstract rigidity of cadastral site boundaries to emphasize aspects of the embodied memory of the place.
