Barrick Gold’s Lumwana Copper Mine in Manyama, Zambia has been an operational open-pit mine for over a decade. However, Barrick is currently undertaking a massive $2 Billion "Super Pit" Expansion Project aimed at doubling the mine's copper production capacity and extending its operational lifespan.

How Our Scope Fits Into the Expansion

The specific items we are constructing directly support this expanded processing infrastructure and site logistics:
• Processing & Material Handling Upgrades: Buildings like the Pebble Crusher building, Metal Fabrication Workshop, and associated cable racks are integral to accommodating increased tonnage and processing volume.
• Geotechnical & Exploration Support: The CO & GEO Shed provides the dedicated facility needed to log, cut, and analyze diamond drill core samples as mining operations scale up into new areas of the deposit.
• On-Site Facilities & Operations: Projects such as the Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Workshop, IPS lockers & shed, Control Building Staircase, and scrapyard shed replace older units or scale up baseline site services to support the significantly larger workforce and expanded daily operations.

We all have something to learn from the Knuppes.

Bertus Knuppe and his wife, Chantel recently packed up their life in Vereeniging and said yes to the opportunity to immigrate to Zambia to manage the Kalumbila and Barrick Mine projects.

The optimistic couple shared that living in Zambia has meant warmer winters, having a braai every Wednesday with other expats, and living closer to a waterfall than a grocery store. Despite the challenges of a foreign country and living far from loved ones, they still see the beauty in living and adjusting their new lives so far from their South African home!

It also looks like Bertus's lucky number might be 4, because he has been at JTC for 4 years, in JTC Zambia for 4 months and he just turned 34 years old today!

This is the man whose unwavering commitment to JTC landed him a job in a country he doesn't know, but this is also the man with the perseverance and adventurous spirit that helped him get there! May your year ahead be full of continued success and great adventures!

We are on-site in Cape Town, leading two key property transformations for Inospace. At the Ndabeni Powder Mill development, we are constructing 307 light steel frame storage units and 1,140m² of mezzanine floors to maximize the facility's vertical space.

Working around an active business park with limited assembly space and outdated building drawings was no small feat. However, by taking the cutting offsite and utilizing custom flashings by Consolidated Cladding, our team is conquering the challenges to get this build out of the ground.
