Design inspiration for the week...

I am a Muslim woman in the Architectural field. This is my journey and words of advice for women…

After completing my degree at the university of Johannesburg, I worked at Urban Edge Architects gaining experience and knowledge from the team, continuously learning new and cutting-edge ways to improve design and architecture. It was phenomenal learning experience.

I then took the big leap and started my own architectural firm - Continental Architecture. I began this new journey on my own with the help of God and the support of my parents and close friends.

It’s been a great four years as the Director of Continental Architecture. I draw inspiration from my travels - grand hotels, landscapes and luxury resorts – these places brings peace and tranquility to my heart.

Lessons learnt and words I live by...

- In order to live a happy life, you need god and peace of the heart to be truly content.

- In life, there will always be highs and lows. You need to be able ‘ride the waves’ in order to thrive and be successful.

- As a strong businesswoman, I’ve learnt to deal with all types of people - especially arrogant and powerful men who undermine powerful women.
- You must be firm in dealing with such people in the male dominated industries. The journey has empowered my mind, heart and self-confidence.

- I stand firm on the fact that ‘dreams don’t have age limits’. Especially for a Muslim woman in the professional field

- It boils down to your mindset. You need to empower, and LEAD! The days of being manipulated and subservient to men are over.

- Have goals, dreams and work hard towards them. They are very fulfilling in the long run. Don’t cut yourself short.
