EIZ LEADS DIALOGUE ON BUILDING BANKABLE INFRASTRUCTURE THROUGH PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS
Industry leaders, financial experts, policymakers and other key stakeholders gathered to explore the opportunities and challenges of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in driving infrastructure development and supporting national development at Radisson Blu Hotel.
The seminar, held as part of the commemoration of Africa Engineering Week, provided a platform for experts from engineering, finance and policy to examine how PPPs can be effectively developed, structured and financed to support sustainable infrastructure delivery and national development.
Through a series of panel discussions, participants explored critical considerations in developing and financing infrastructure projects through PPP arrangements, with particular emphasis on technical credibility, bankability, affordability, performance and long-term value.
Among the featured experts was Eng. Mumba Kanyulka, who addressed the topic, “Engineering Due Diligence: Turning Infrastructure Concepts into Technically Credible and Investable Projects.”
His presentation highlighted the critical role of sound engineering assessments in transforming infrastructure concepts into technically viable and investment-ready projects.
The discussion underscored the importance of ensuring that projects are technically well assessed and credible before progressing towards investment and financing.
Also contributing to the discussions was Eng. Solomon Simutowe, who spoke on “From Infrastructure Need to Bankable Partnerships: Structuring PPPs for Value, Performance and National Development.”
Eng. Simutowe focused on the principles and approaches required to structure effective PPPs that respond to infrastructure needs while delivering value, achieving performance objectives and contributing meaningfully to national development.
The panel further featured Susiku Nasinda, a development finance expert, who addressed “Financing PPPs: Bankability, Affordability, Fiscal Risk and Long-Term Value.”
His presentation examined the financial considerations that underpin successful PPPs, including the need to balance bankability and affordability while managing fiscal risks and ensuring long-term value.
The seminar reinforced the importance of bringing together engineering expertise, financial insight and policy perspectives when developing infrastructure through PPPs.
Such multidisciplinary engagement provides an important platform for stakeholders to examine how infrastructure concepts can be translated into credible, sustainable and investment-ready projects.
The EIZ seminar forms part of the Institution’s broader engagement in advancing engineering knowledge, professional dialogue and national development, while contributing to conversations on the role of engineering in addressing Zambia’s infrastructure needs.
The EIZ Vice President for Policy, Public Relations and National Development, Eng. Dr. Chilala Kakoma Bowa, was the Guest of Honour at the event, while Southern Regional Manager, Eng. Chimfwembe Mutale, officially opened the sessions.
