We have successfully completed and handed over Kabuta Secondary School phase II in Kasama at Mwamba Mulilo village of Malole Constituency. We thank PEAS as a client through Senior Construction Officer Snow Nkhoma and Contractor Empire Resources through the MD Will Harrison. BNB Quantity Surveyors were the Consultants for this Project. Thanks for everyone involved for making such a project a success and wish the pupils and teachers alike a good learning environment. We urge the local community to guard this school jealously as it will remain their property for main years to come. Date of Project hand over 05/08/2020

Fact #1.

After you have all the paper work set, i.e. drawings submitted to council and permission/approval to develop/build is granted... You first want to clear the site. On clearing the site be sure to only cut trees that interfere with with the preferred building position, because you still want to have the natural environment to this space you bringing some built up concrete works. On clearing the site, remember also to remove the top soil about 300mm that contains vegetative matter, also around the preferred building position. Once that is done, the next step is setting out the building...
Setting out requires you to have lime (or any white visible powder), at least 30 units 400mm length steel pegs, a hammer, measuring tapes, a square, builders line, wheel barrow, and a minimum of four helpers to the person setting out... This setting out so described is the traditional one, that can be done by anyone who knows the works. The outcome is white marks of where the foundation trenches will be dug. Normally if your architect/any technical person does this setting out for you it will most definitely ease your onsite stress. This duty is time consuming, as setting out done right is a building done well and straight... Other times when you want it done quickly we engage a civil engineer, geomatics engineer or surveyor. This may be pricey but should be preferred especially for bigger buildings and those that appear to have a complicated layout. Machine Setting out replaces measuring tapes with a theodolite and consumes the least time as the theodolite is used to point to points where pegs need to be placed. This procedure may require more pegs... Remember to give the drawings to the person doing machine setout a day in advance so they can pre-set the coordinates in the theodolite/total station in advance...
