💡Tip of the Day

Why you should always backup your data online.

Backing up data online ensures protection against hardware failures, theft, cyberattacks, and accidental deletion. The main reasons why many people in Zimbabwe fail to backup is largely due to the high cost of data, unreliable internet connections as well as being unaware of the services.

Major Reasons why you should Back Up Data Online.

1. Protection Against Hardware Failure
Phone may fail to switch on
Memory cards may corrupt data
Online backups ensure files remain safe even if your device is damaged.

2. Defense Against Cyber Threats
Ransomware, viruses, and hacking attempts can lock or destroy local files.
Cloud storage often includes ransomware resilience and version history, allowing you to restore clean copies.

3. Security Against Theft or Loss
If your phone is stolen, your data isn’t lost—it remains accessible online.
This is especially critical for sensitive files like financial records or business documents.

4. Convenience & Accessibility
Cloud backups allow you to access files from any device, anywhere.
This is useful for students, professionals, and businesses needing flexibility.

Risks & Considerations
Internet Dependence: Cloud backups require a stable connection.
Subscription Costs: Ongoing fees may be higher than a one-time external drive purchase.
Privacy Concerns.

Best Practices
Keep a local backup for quick access and an online backup for resilience.
Schedule automatic backups to avoid forgetting.
Choose reputable providers like Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, or Acronis for strong security.

The Best Ways to Charge Your Cellphone Battery.

Most modern phones use Lithium-ion and Lithium-ion Polymer batteries. Good charging habits can make them last much longer. Below are some very important tips on how to charge your battery for optimum use and for it to have a longer life;

1. Keep battery level between 20% to 80%.
• Avoid letting the phone drop to less than 10%.
• Try not to charge to 100% all the time.
• The healthiest range is 20–80%.

2. Use the original or high-quality charger.
• Cheap chargers can cause overheating or unstable voltage.
• Always use a reliable cable and adapter.
• Avoid cheap solar inverters and power banks.

3. Avoid heat while charging.
• Heat is the biggest enemy of lithium batteries.
• Do not charge:
o Under a pillow
o In direct sunlight
o Inside a hot car

4. Do not use the phone heavily while charging
• Gaming or heavy apps while charging creates extra heat, which damages the battery.

5. Unplug when fully charged
• Because batteries have recharge limits e.g. some can be charged for 2000 times before they start degrading. Leaving the phone plugged in overnight occasionally is fine, but doing it every day stresses the battery.

Some very Important Signs Your Phone Battery Is Faulty

These are common symptoms associated with a faulty battery during use:

1. Battery drains very fast
• Example: 100% to 30% in a few hours with light use or none.

2. Phone shuts down suddenly or Restarts (at time randomly)
• Phone shows 20–40% but turns off.
• Can restart randomly and may fail to enter the into the main system.
• Applications giving errors or closing unexpectedly

3. Phone only works when plugged in
• Once the charger is removed, the phone switches off immediately.

4. Battery swelling
• The phone back cover starts lifting or separating.
• This is dangerous and should be replaced immediately.

5. Overheating during charging
• Battery becomes very hot even with light use.

6. Slow charging or not charging properly
• Can be confused for a faulty cable or charging head or both.
