Weekends look a little different out here. š±
One of the reasons we wanted acreage was to become more connected to where our food actually comes from.
Not perfectly self sufficient.
Not pretending weāre homesteading experts.
Just slowly learning to grow, raise and preserve more of our own food.
This weekend was processing and packing meat for the freezer, cutting it down, portioning it, vacuum sealing it and putting it away for the months ahead.
And the kids get to be part of it too.
They see that food doesnāt magically appear wrapped in plastic at the supermarket.
They learn where it comes from, the work involved and why we donāt waste it.
Between the animals, fruit trees, veggie gardens and everything else weāre slowly working towards, thereās still a LONG way to go.
But this is the life we wanted when we moved out here.
Build the home. Grow the food. Raise the kids. Create a life we donāt need to escape from.
And apparently spend half the weekend vacuum sealing things. š
How much of your own food would you grow if you had the space?
