Meet Paul. Paul has spent around 30 years in the electrical industry, starting his apprenticeship in Scotland in 1996 before building his career in Melbourne and eventually joining ProGlow in 2024.

After all that time, he still says the client consultation is his favourite part of the job.

During consultations, Paul works through the home with our clients, planning the electrical, lighting and Control4 automation around how they’ll actually live in the space, not simply what looks good on a floor plan.

His experience means he knows the questions to ask early, the details that are easy to overlook and what needs to be resolved before construction begins.

It’s a big part of making the journey from consultation to site as clear and considered as possible.

Good lighting design starts with the right questions.

During a lighting consultation, we work through the floor plan room by room and look at how each space will actually be used.

Where will the dining table sit? Is there artwork we want to highlight? Where does task lighting make sense? What do you want to see when you walk into the room?

Those details help shape everything from feature and linear lighting through to positioning, adjustability and how the lighting works across the home.

The goal isn’t simply to add lights to a plan. It’s to design the lighting around the people who will live there.

A good electrical installation starts with a good electrical design.

Before construction begins, we work through how the home will actually be used and coordinate the lighting, power, security, networking and automation as one plan.

That means switches, fittings, control points and technology can be considered early and documented clearly for the client, builder and our team on site.

Jasper House was designed so the lighting changes with the home.

Rather than simply filling the ceiling with downlights, each space was considered around the architecture, materials and how the home would actually be used.

Feature pendants define key areas, task lighting is positioned where it’s needed and architectural lighting carries consistently through the kitchen, bar and living spaces.

Behind it all is a fully integrated Control4 system with centralised lighting throughout the home, allowing individual lights, rooms and scenes to work together rather than as separate fittings.

The result is a home that can move from bright and practical during the day to warm and considered at night, all from one integrated system.

Downlights alone can leave a kitchen feeling harsh and still miss the areas that actually need light.

Benchtops, splashbacks and cabinetry all have different lighting requirements, which is why a considered kitchen lighting plan uses more than one light source.

Task lighting under cabinetry, feature lighting and pendants can all play a role in creating a space that works during the day and feels comfortable at night.

Some of the most important electrical decisions are also the hardest to change once construction is underway.

Lighting placement, switching, power, technology and automation all shape how a home looks and how it works once you're living in it. That's why we work through the floor plan with our clients early, considering how each room will really be used and how the different systems need to work together.

The aim is a simple. Make the right calls early, document them properly, and hand the builder and our installation team a clear plan to deliver from.

Most of this part of the build disappears the moment the plaster goes up.

Through rough-in and fit-off, every cable and circuit is labelled and kept in order, so anything can be identified quickly at any stage. It keeps testing and commissioning running smoothly, and it means future servicing or changes are far simpler to make.

It’s a simple part of the process, but it reflects the standard we expect across every stage of the installation.

Lighting design goes well beyond choosing fittings and deciding where the downlights land.

It considers how you move through each space, where the furniture and joinery will sit, what needs task or feature lighting, and how the different layers of light work together. Bec works through those decisions with homeowners in the ProGlow studio, building a lighting plan that considers the whole home before construction moves ahead.
