Taking a moment on site to appreciate the views! 🛠️🏡

When we’re right in the thick of the busyness of building our own home, the days fly by. But there’s an entirely different level of excitement when the complex blueprint we’re bringing to life is our own roofline and future living space.

Dennis’ brother-in-law dropped by site, and since he’s also in the construction industry, they couldn’t help but talk shop and admire the engineering and finer details. It’s awesome to stop for a second, share the work-in-progress, and take in these views with family who truly appreciates the craftsmanship that goes into a high-end frame.

This project is moving fast and the vision is coming together exactly as planned. 🔥

Swipe through to see the progress:

Slide 3: The behind-the-scenes structural details 📐

Hard to beat a site view like this, right?👇🏼

Completely & utterly one of a kind. Our O’Connor knockdown rebuild is proving to be a wonder in deeply considered architectural design, engineering and craftsmanship.

This unique custom architectural build is anything but straight forward. It demands the critical thinking, unwavering expertise, and intricate balance of practical & cost effective solutions to complex workarounds on site, that can only be achieved by the depth and years of experience that Dennis all but takes in his stride.

Every single detail is given the attention, planning and care required to execute this build to perfection, without exception.

With so much activity and excitement on-site these past weeks, let’s take a moment to acknowledge and thank our exceptional trades who are absolutely nailing it -

Shoutout to our amazing carpenter Beau and his apprentice Luke! 🛠️✨
This incredible team has been absolutely crushing it - working smart, hard, fast, & with the precision of a well oiled nail gun. A rare duo with mind-blowing confidence, knowledge & commitment to the craft. Huge thank you to Beau & Luke for setting the standard super high and keeping our project moving seamlessly! 🪚💪

Big thanks to Ben and his team of brickies, we’re thrilled with the result of your craftsmanship, especially the intricate straight line all around the house, the curved terrace brick wall, and the artisan soldier courses executed to perfection! We salute you👏🏼

Jono, Toby and your trusted roofing team, the fun is just getting started! Anticon blanket & Colorbond roof in beautiful Woodland Grey supplied & installed, thanks team! Giant 3x3m terrace skylight glass awaits…🙌🏼

Big thanks to Michael and his structural steel crew for going the whole mile, all 4 tonnes of it made and installed with remarkable accuracy👌🏼

Balancing life right now is a whole new level of wild!

On the work side, we run our family business, help clients navigate their building journey & save money without losing design style, and build amazing new homes🏠

At home, we parent three kids across primary school, high school, & college, are massively involved in our basketball community, and we’re building our own dream home😳

Jumping out of bed to drive by our O’Connor knockdown rebuild every day is the best feeling, we’re really having so much fun. Most days there’s an update on site, from a new delivery to a new frame going up… we’re there for it all. Every detail is bringing the vision home🙌🏼

There are definitely challenges of such a complex build, particularly figuring out structural & practical solutions to improve functionality & identify cost savings, which is super satisfying.

The girls have wrapped up an amazing ACT representative basketball season, with Dennis Assisting Coaching the U19 girls team & getting heavily involved in our basketball community. At its peak we were balancing 11 basketball teams across our family - which is no joke. Yes, we love basketball🏀

We’re making time for catching up with family & friends, planning ahead for when we move into our new home, settling into semester 2 of another hectic school year, and importantly - living for nourishing warm meals for breakfast, lunch & dinner to sustain us all, because we’re all foodies and that’s all there is to it❤️

Big update from Aldona on site at our O’Connor knock down rebuild! Our amazing carpentry crew have powered through & completed all ground floor & first floor framing, & upstairs floor joists from Universal Trusses🙌🏼💪🏼🔨

All thermal broken, double glazed, semi-commercial, aluminium framed windows & frames by Trend Windows & Doors are installed downstairs. 4 sets of sliding doors overlooking the pool area, front timber door & glass rear door are scheduled to be installed soon. Jaw droping upstairs windows & sliding doors are on-site ready for install with more structural steel reinforcement enroute…we can hardly wait!

Our front curved wall is coming together beautifully, & the terrace layout above is really becoming visible now. The views from upstairs are quite simply beyond…stay tuned❤️

Austral bricks made in Spain have arrived on site packaged with precision, ready for our brickies this week👌🏼

We’ve specifically chosen Pro Clima Australia SOLITEX EXTISANA wrap supplied by LAROS Technologies & we’re super excited to share more specific info on this incredible high performance building product soon!

A little sprinkle of rain hasn’t stopped our dynamo carpenters on-site, very pleased to report we’re still running on schedule😉🏠

A complex architectural design by is a complex build. This one is extra special because it’s ours.

Lucky for us, Dennis is up to the challenge, and is on-site project managing and finding solutions in real time. His 30 years of experience and wealth of knowledge in the building industry is obvious from a mile - he’s doing what he does best.

Experience is everything. Our chief carpenter Rhys has been with us since the beginning. That’s 15 years working with - Dennis & Rhys, learning & understanding each other’s rhythms, capabilities, and developing this innate ability to get excited about the challenges of problem solving as a team, and have fun on site with their craft.

The past few weeks have turned out crisp autumn mornings & sunny Canberra days, structural steel galore, timber floor joists delivered by , our No. 1 carpentry crew installed all ground floor thermal broken, double glazed, semi-commercial aluminium framed windows & frames by Trend Windows & Doors (with the exception of the sliding doors & curved wall windows happening soon), and our plumbing & drainage crew ran pipes for ground floor wet areas & garden taps (it all matters).

Our building program is in full swing🙌🏼 Follow along to see what happens next…

Big decisions on site at our O’Connor knockdown rebuild today! It’s time to finalise the electrical layout for downstairs, and get critical with the joinery design…that means filling up the kids with maccas breakfast after basketball and heading to site for some serious business. PowerPoints for days, tweaks to our already splendid joinery layouts in the kids bedrooms to make them uniquely their own, considering easy access for our new mate robo vac, rolling our eyes over the sheer number of devices we have between us, and talking excitedly over the top of one another for a proper few hours of locking in🫣 Feeling super grateful everyone is excited to be on-onsite making meaningful decisions to these little details that will make all the difference down the track when we’re trying to plug in a lamp, charge a phone in arms reach, do makeup in optimal lighting, create the right mood, keep robo vac happily employed, and charge the cars, leaf blower, lawn mower and hedge trimmer at the same time🙌🏼

There’s a bittersweet side of Mother’s Day that hits home for us.

When you lose the glue that holds your family together, everything changes.

Thats what happened when we lost Aldona’s wonderful mum Sandra to bowel cancer, when she was just 53 years young, on the day after Mother’s Day, 13 years ago. Raising 3yr old and 7 week old daughters at the time (let that sit for a moment), there’s a deeply personal story of heartbreak, grief and courage behind our family motto - You only live once.

Mother’s Day week is always a reflective reminder of why we choose to live full lives with confidence and conviction, celebrating all of the big and small moments that nourish our soul, and make up a lifetime.

When we say our purpose is to change lives for the better, we wholeheartedly mean it. We only have this one life, just one. Creating beautiful architectural and custom designed homes that change lives for the better, is just the beginning. Creating a beautiful life is at the very core of everything we truly believe and aspire to every single day.

This Mothers Day week we’re grateful for all the amazing mums in our world who make up our village, and change our lives for the better.

To our number one basketball mum Aldona, who according to her 3 cherubs is also a fashionista, doctor, therapist, detective, police officer, and especially a top tier chef, we appreciate you and we wish you the Happy Mothers Day you deserve🤍
