𝗔𝘀𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝘀: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗖𝗔𝗡 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂

We’ve previously shared what happens when we come across potential asbestos-containing materials in your switchboard 👉 https://bit.ly/3MDrVqP (TLDR: works may stop while we manage the risk.)

But what should you be on the lookout for? Typically, your switchboard might contain asbestos if:

🕰️ it was installed before 2004 (for those installed prior to 1990 the risk is even higher)

⬛ it has dark brown or black panels with a tar-like or bituminous appearance

🧾 it includes brand names like Ausbestos, Lebah, Miscolite or Zelemite (though don’t go investigating to find these)

🔍 unsealed holes in the switchboard show white fibres

🪵 its housing is made of timber lined with fibro or low-density board.

If you’re unsure, engage a licenced electrician to assess your switchboard. That way, if it does contain asbestos, they can also assist you to proactively assess it and upgrade your switchboard if necessary; potentially saving time when you next want to complete electrical works.
