Why you should avoid barrel saunas?
The main advantage of barrel saunas is their lower price. But in reality, this saving is rarely worth it because these structures come with major technical compromises and a much shorter lifespan.
Here’s why:
🚩No insulation - Barrel saunas made of a 4cm single piece wooden board, so they lose heat quickly and consume more electricity to maintain temperature.
🚩No proper v***r barrier - Moisture and steam pe*****te the gaps between the boards, which can lead to wood damage and structural deterioration over time. A real sauna should have proper v***r and moisture protection.
🚩Shorter lifespan - As the wood naturally dries and shrinks, gaps appear between the boards, making the structure less airtight and less durable in the long run.
🚩Limited interior space - The curved shape reduces usable headroom and comfort. In many barrel saunas it’s impossible to sit upright comfortably or lie down fully, which is important for proper relaxation.
🚩Only one bench level - Due to limited height, barrel saunas usually cannot support two-level benches. This creates uneven heat distribution: your upper body gets hot while your legs stay noticeably colder, reducing sauna comfort and effectiveness.
🚩Non suitable design compared to cabin style saunas - Barrel saunas are often chosen for lower cost, but traditional cabin-style saunas offer better ergonomics, insulation, functionality, and overall user experience.
At Taiga Saunas Cyprus, we focus on building only cabin style saunas designed for durability, energy efficiency, comfort, and authentic sauna experience.
